a word of caution...

I have a putter that I fool around the house with - I cut it down pretty short (31-32") and it was too light

Decided to try a little backweighting - picked up a clevis pin at home depot and figured I'd blow off the grip, plop it in, reinstall the grip and give it a go....

unfortunately, I had cut the shaft with a pipecutter, and bent it in a bit so the clevis pin didn't fit - decided to trim a bit off with a chop saw for a cleaner cut

so I didn't have a chop saw, but a $4 blade on my compound mitre saw was just the ticket - the word of caution is to empty the saw dust out of the bag before your start throwing sparks with a cut-off wheel

my stomach sank as I realized how stupid it was (used to be a vol. firefighter)

anyway - the putter feels great with the backweight - I'm money in the living room

might have to pull the grip from my real putter tomorrow

I have a funny story on the same lines. I was cutting a pile of rebar one time at work with a concrete saw with an abrasive blade/wheel. Going along just fine until I felt my foot getting unusually hot. As I look down, I see the flames on my shoe and going up my leg. I frickin' lit myself on fire! After kicking off my shoes and dropping my drawers, I could laugh about my stupidity. Didn't live that one down for a while.

The first time I used a circular saw, I was holding the guard open for the cut and when I finished the cut I cut right through the cord, made a nice crackling noise... I then grabbed for the live cord, before my father-in-law stopped me woke me from my trance. I've come a long way since then LOL.

Any of your ever used a radial arm saw? It's about as dangerous a tool as ever was invented. About 20 years ago I managed to cut about 1/8" off the tips of 2 fingers of my left hand with one of these things.

Yes, it hurt.

Then there was the time I was trimming the shrubs with an electric hedge trimmer and cut right through the cord...................

DVM, you're right
I've got a radial arm saw in the garage too - it was a gift from my father in law - it was his father's - I think it's from the 70's - I haven't identified a single safety feature on it yet - I won't put a cutting blade on it - I use it to hold a sanding wheel or a buffing wheel only

I think most of us have cut cords with hedge trimmers - the smart ones don't tape it back up and keep going.

Used a Rotozip cutting blade for my driver and putter. Worked just fine. Just left the old tape on the driver graphite when I made the cut. The blades similar to an angle grinder cutting wheel, not the drill bit types.
