Thread: Golf on a budget??

  1. Golf on a budget??

Is this even possible. I am trying to put together a complete set for around 350 dollars. I like my Nicklaus Irons but they are 3 years old and a little beat up. I am looking for a complete iron set, a driver, and a 5 wood. Already have wedges and putter. What would you all recommend for this much cash.

  2. Used, used, used. For $350 you should be able to put together a very nice set. I'd spend the majority of the $$ on a good set of irons, then pick up some older model steelhead FW's. Callaway, Cleveland and Taylormade all have models from 4 or 5 years ago that will keep up with anything new. For a cheaper good driver... The Taylormade 580xd and the Cleveland Launcher are 2 very good ones.

  3. Well, I wouldn't buy new. It would be junk. Look for some deals on some good used name brand irons, woods etc. They can be found. The first place I'd look is right here in the Pro Shop (Global Golf). Look for stuff a year or two old.

I could seriously work up a set for you from the clubs/ bags I have laying around. If you're interested, let me know.

Here we go: Titleist 983K 9.5 degree, Speeder stiff and an Adams 17 degree 4 wood with a Bimatrix RXI stiff shaft. Both nine out of ten. $75 shipped. That leaves $275 for irons.

That sounds perfect for me. What is the major difference between a 9.5 driver and a 10.5 driver? The only new iron sets I could find were adams gts and walter hagens, both were at dicks sporting goods. What model adams wood is it?

It really depends on your skill level at the moment, if you're looking for game improvement, or something more advanced. I have a lot of decent quality equipment that isn't really worth much on Ebay. You are better off looking at irons from Ebay or at Global Golf. Are you new to golf, or just needing to do it on a budget? I'd love to unload some of my spare stuff to someone trying on the game. Tell us what your looking for, and I think the site can help you out. Jon

  7. I am 16 years old and started playing about two years ago. My dad gave me his Nicklaus irons that he had bought from his friend a couple years ago for around 300 bucks. They are nice but a bit outdated like I said. I wanted to upgrade to some newer clubs but don't have a ton of money leftover from my summer job. So 350 is about my range and will still leave me with money to golf(that adds up).

I will talk to my parents and see what I can do. I read great reviews on the titleist driver.

Dude, check out this Ebay auction. Item # 180118533088. No bids, and thats a great deal. TA-5's are nice and forgiving.

    (I think I just lost myself a sale)

Actually you may be able to get what you want new with money to spare assuming you do not plan to get fitted. Usually I see alot of the year or two old Adams stuff for dirt cheap at many of the sporting goods stores. Another which I have no experience with but have heard good things about that are usually inexpensive are the Tommy Armour irons.

Actually I have never bought from this site, but have heard they are reputable is Rockbottomgolf
Discount Golf Clubs, New Golf Clubs and Equipment from TaylorMade, Adams Golf, Mizuno, Tommy Armour, Ram, Hippo, Wilson, Nike, Bag Boy and Ogio.

Adams or Tommy Armour 5-pw $129 or 3-PW Adams GT-3 in Steel for $99
    Adams woods $29
    Adams Driver $49
Only around $200, so you can pick up a couple more woods or hybrids
