Post Taylormade Burner TP

When Burner first came out a lot of people condemned it by comparing it to a fishing rod on a bucket. However, as time went by many started changing their minds and began saying that it actually performs better than r7 Superquad.
Would like hear more opinions and reviews about Burner TP at this point of time. Here are some of the questions you could also answer while reviewing.
1. Is the stock shaft too long or people are just complaining about it when it is still manageable?
2. Has anyone tried custom ordering the stock shaft at a shorter length and how did it perform?
3. If you don't like the stock shaft, which other shafts have you tried on the Burner head? Did it go well with the head?
4. How do you like the sound of the club head?
5. Is there much difference between the 50g and the 65g stock shaft?
6. Burner has a heavy swing weight. How did this effect your drive?
7. Does the STIFF flex feel more like REGULAR flex compared to other shafts? I heard a lot of stiff flex users ordered x-flex 'cause it was whippy compared to other shafts.
8. If you do own a Burner TP driver, would you also buy a Burner fairway?

I think the shaft is too long unless you have a very repeatable swing but the head sounds nice.

I like mine. The 65 gram shaft wasn't bad but I did change to a Speeder 757 because that is the shaft I like. Length is OK as it is only a half inch over standard which I use anyway. I gave up my r7 425 TP for it so it really performs well.

I probably won't get the Fairways as I really like the ones I have now.

Overall, it is one of the best drivers out there.

1. Is the stock shaft too long or people are just complaining about it when it is still manageable?
The Burner TP shaft comes at a stock length of 45.5", so it is not as long as the regular Burner at 46". The 45.5" length is a bit long, but due to the stability of the head, you can get away with the extra length and get fairly consistent results.

2. Has anyone tried custom ordering the stock shaft at a shorter length and how did it perform?
No, I haven't.

3. If you don't like the stock shaft, which other shafts have you tried on the Burner head? Did it go well with the head?
I have the Diamana White Board shaft in the Burner TP head and it performs better than the stock shaft for me.

4. How do you like the sound of the club head?
The club sounds good at impact, a bit deeper than the sound of the SuperQuad.

5. Is there much difference between the 50g and the 65g stock shaft?
Yes, there is a huge difference, the 50 gram shaft is a lot like the Fit on S.I.X. shaft which was a 53 gram tour level shaft. The 65 gram is a Graphite Design Pershing shaft.

6. Burner has a heavy swing weight. How did this effect your drive?
I actually increased the swing weight more than it was, it is at a D5, this allows me to let the club do a lot of the work. The heavier swing weight brings the club head through the impact zone easily.

7. Does the STIFF flex feel more like REGULAR flex compared to other shafts? I heard a lot of stiff flex users ordered x-flex 'cause it was whippy compared to other shafts.
Didn't hit the stock shaft long enough to get a good read on this. The reason it would feel whippy is due to the longer length of the shaft.

8. If you do own a Burner TP driver, would you also buy a Burner fairway?
Absolutely not, the Burner steel fairway wood has a huge head, just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I was one of the people that was very skeptical about the Burner driver from the moment that I heard about the club and saw pictures. The TP has a much better look than the regular head, a bit shorter front to back and a deeper face and a square face angle. The graphics on the crown also seemed as though they would be a bit of a distraction, I like a very clean look at address and the thought of seeing the white markings on the top did not appeal to me at all. Out in the sunlight, the graphics are not as noticable at address, so that eased my concerns on that.

When I tested the Burner back in Jan, the TP version was a definite improvemnt on the standard issue burner. The shaft is still too long for most people so a reshaft or modification is probably in order. Personally, I found the SuperQuad TP to be the best feeling head/shaft combination in stock form. Compared to the SuperQuad, the burner head sounded a bit more "tinny" where as the SuperQuad sounded solid.

The Burner has the potential to be a solid driver, but some modification will likely be required.

Am seriously considering buying the Burner TP in a month or so's time. Had a look at it yesterday and quite fancy getting it in X flex with the Graphite Design 65g shaft. If anyone sees or hears of any X flex TP ones floating about, however, please drop me a line as could well in the interested.

In two minds whether to pur-chase this or the Titleist D2 driver...

It seems like a pretty sweet club.

The Golden Bear golf facility about two blocks from my house has a sweet Taylormade setup, almost everyshaft imaginable in almost every flex on every head that TM has. I tested out the Burner TP on Saturday morning before my 10am tee time with a wide range of shafts. It was hard for me to get used to the club because I would have had to add a bit of lead tape to the head since the shaft/head overall weight seemed to throw my tempo off a little. It is a club that you could knock the hell out of with the right shaft combo but it threw my tempo off giving me an inconsistent feel for the club. I think if I could get the club to a D6 in a Diamana whiteboard in 80 grams it might work, but I like to have a lot of clubhead feel in my clubs and to top it off play a heavier shaft makes this club a nightmare for me to try out.
