Geek DCT review

Dot Com This 10.5 Accuflex JLG Ulraboom stiff 45"

Why am I changing? Current driver to demanding for the amount of golf I am able to play this year due to work,R7 425 9.5TP.I play once a week and practice twice. The R7 is a lovely club, but it demands my total attention and best swing, its long and straight but as I say,not a good club just for pay and play for a bit of fun.Hence the need for a club that can be hit straight with little effort,I want a club I that is below my supposed level so mentally I can just enjoy hitting it,if you know what I mean.Just less stress required, and I expect some distance loss.

The Geek has had rave reviews, its cheap, comes with great shaft options and crucially I liked one I hit once when I saw someone with one, albeit a reg shaft.So...

450CC head, traditionally shaped, not as deep faced as WBL's pics make it look, its actually quite conservative in its styling, all the better for it.It also sounds traditonal,no Cobra nastiness or Callaway dullness, almost 905R'esque,good solid sound.

Its described as a low spinning head but I couldn't detect that with Srixon range balls uphill on the range.I played with tee height and found nothing unusual,I got a good trajectory from my usual lowish tee, third of the ball above the face.

The shaft felt superb. The Ultraboom plays a lot softer than the Rombax, which is a stiff tipped low launch shaft so no surprise there. The Ultraboom is mid launch mid tip and the flex imho is less stiff than the Rombax,a far more comfortable and easier shaft to hit,but strong enough for me control, strike one for the shaft, mission accomplished.

But the head shaft combo caught me by surprise. The carry was 5/10 yards longer than my Rombax and the flight was perfect, higher than the R7 but with just as much penetration,if I get the extra roll the their website promises then this is a winner. And its a doddle to shape.I found fades easier than draws, but draws easier to control, some fades were a little wild and in fact until I got used to the shaft I pushed the first half dozen shots. The shaft responds differently to the Rombax,I just needed a smoother swing, the Rombax needed fully loading imho.

Anyway, for a punt this was a winner.Dirt cheap,£130 for an ex-dem,compared to £300 for the R7,a clear winner. If on the course it turns out to be longer well I will be astonished but the signs from the range are good, the carry was superb. But its the shaft that also makes this head so good, what a fabulous relatively cheap mid tipped stiffish shaft, and also easy to load.I have an average swing transition wise,so perfect for me and my goal of finding length and accuracy with less effort than the do or die R7.

Great review and you take much better pictures then I do. If you really like this club maybe someday you can try one with the VS Proto. Unless you've already tried that shaft. I certainly am hitting mine nicely.

Great review Dave. It's sparked my interest in picking up one of these heads. I may not sell the Epic after all.

Dave, what loft is your Geek? I've got the 10.5º and as Lyle told me it is lower launching then my 9º Rapture. Launch angle is perfect, high enough but boring and with good roll.

Ez, you're going to waste one of these great heads on an Epic?

Why not try it? It was actually looking at a friggen Sasquatch to put the Epic in. lol. I'll pick up the 1st VS I find under $50. I missed out on a Blueboard 63 and a Rombax 6W06 last night because I didn't have the $70 for either of them.

True, if you don't like it you could always put a Blueboard in it!!

How are you hitting that driver of yours now with the Blueboard?

Killing it most of the time. I've got to resist the urge to try to draw the damn thing. I can hit a 2-3 yd. fade 270 all day long. It's when I try to draw it that the bad things happen. I can only pull the draw off about 1/3 times it seems. I think I'm going to set it back to dead nuetral high launch for next round.

Dave,

I'm also hitting the 10.5º Geek much lower (more boring) then the 9º Rapture. Lyle told me this would play like this. I love it.

Really? I think I'm going to have one picked around 10.8 to 10.9 then and about .2-.4 shut.

My DCT was a 9* and played lower launch that other 9*'s that I've hit.

Weird.
