I never thought it would come to this

Been looking to replace my TM 540XD for almost a year now. I've tried just about everything under the sun, and thought I was down to either the rapture or the superquad. Until yesterday that is.

I had a scramble to play in yesterday (Monday). I was cleaning up my clubs Sunday night after a range session and noted that my driver head was loose on the shaft. Turns out that the bond was broken, so that was that for my driver. So here I am Sunday night (no shops open, scramble tomorrow morning) I went into my son's room and begged his Sasquatch off of him for the day. I'd ebayed this club for him last year and he seems to like it fine. Personally I've always hated the appearance and thus never hit one.

So off I went Monday morning holding my nose. I had some morning commitments so I got to the cart just at shotgun. Nice warm up! Stepped up to the first tee after stretching for a few minutes, put the ball on a tee, tried not to look at the head and swung. HOLY cr*p! I've never seen a ball come off a club that I swung go so far and so high.

This is how the day progressed. I missed one FW left and one right. Everything else was in the short grass. I had so much confidence the last couple of holes, that I was swinging as hard as I could swing and darned if that ball didn't end up in the fairway. All that work and those hours trying out clubs and it was sitting there in my son's room.... right under my nose.

So now I need to go get a Sasquatch I guess it's off to ebay. Anyone hit both a max and a tour?

Jeff

After a couple of rounds with one you'll not even notice the grey band on the head, and certainly not the graphics and yellow inserts on the bottom. What you *will* notice is the long, straight drived though.

One of the best decisions I ever made was buying a Sasquatch when I did, as it helped my game tremendously.

sssmokin really creams his SQ too. He bought a second one used from GG and put a VS Proto in it. He hits that even farther. Damn it!

I was originally just borrowing my buddies SQ Tour while my 905R was grounded (he just spent some obscene amount of money on a Blueboard shafted J33). I had several great range sessions with it and while walking off the 18th green after the best round I've ever had off the tee box I just handed him some cash...

The SQ Tour has a very modest "powerbow" that really isn't even noticeable; it is actually quite traditional in shape. The std model's powerbow is more pronounced but, as previously stated, it becomes a moot point quite quickly.

I think if you ask around enough you'll find two very different responses. Those who haven't hit it will tell you it is fugly and those who have hit it will tell you it is the best driver they've ever bought.

Lemme say this, in response to that above post. I haven't hit it, and I really do think it's a very unattractive driver. But the beauty of your driver pales in comparison to the beauty of a split fairway. You could drive with a goblin for all anyone cares, so long as it for the job done, and it was USGA conforming.

justagolfer,

I have hit the SQ and have owned the SQ Tour and SQ Sumo.

The standard SQ, also known as th SQ Max, is USGA conforming. The SQ+ Max is the non-conforming driver.

Both the SQ Max and the SQ Sumo offer more forgiveness to off center hits than the SQ Tour. It is easy to shape drives with the SQ Tour.

The SQ Max and SQ Tour hit the same distance while the SQ Sumo seems to be a bit longer. All three are all titanium drivers and sound good.

None of the clubs are what I would call ugly. They may not look completely traditional but honestly, I am looking at the ball at address, not the club.

I think you should get whichever version your son owns. Same head, same shaft.

Before I got mine, I never knew where my drives would end up..............no problem any more. Right down the middle and longer than I've been hitting in years. Best investment I ever made golf-wise.......and when I got the second one and put the Proto shaft in..........more distance yet without losing any control. I have the SQ standard, and they work just fine for me.

Two of the best posts I've ever seen in these answers:

"Those who haven't hit it will tell you it is fugly and those who have hit it will tell you it is the best driver they've ever bought."

"I think you should get whichever version your son owns. Same head, same shaft."

I went to the shop convinced I would come away with a Launcher Ti or a HiBore, but promised I would try every driver in my price range, including the SQ I had absolutely no intention of buying, just so I couldn't take my purchase out and start with the 'what ifs' if I didn't hit it too well. The SQ came out with the best figures AND felt the best by an absolute mile, and within half a dozen swings you don't notice anything unusual about its shape. As I said, best decision I ever made was getting one.

And because of the influence of this very forum I keep getting pangs of 'But what if I got it reshafted?' - I have to slap myself around the face and remind myself that I'm now hitting the ball straighter than ever and finally hitting 250+ for the first time ever, so why the hell would I want to mess with that? If you hit your son's so well, get the exact same driver and don't mess with things that could make it worse as easily as they could make it better!

Not to mention that these can be picked up for a song!

If you do feel like playing with the set-up a little bit you can always take the AccuFLEX out of your TM...
