Wedge help

What are some common lofts that are used for wedges? currently I have only a PW and I would like to get possibly a sand wedge and another wedge..... is there a wedge that will only carry the ball about 30-40 yards on a full swing?

I recently picked up a 58* wedge and that seems pretty good for the 30-40 yarders. As long as just let the club do the work it's stupid easy to just plop in right on the stick.

What are you playing for irons? I'd recommend a gap wedge and a sandwedge at least. Also, what kind of divots do you take with your 9 and PW on a decent shot? This would help to recommend a bounce degree.

50-52-54-56-58-60 are mostly the lofts of wedges you can get. i think 56 is most common the sand wedge but not 100% sure.

My irons are a set of Nike Ignite's that I just bought and they are very easy to hit compared to my wa mart clubs.....Not sure what you mean by what kind of divots I get.....you mean the length of the divot?

How large. A better question... On a good iron shot, what club is the lowest loft you take a sizeable divot with. Basically I'm trying to figure out if you pick the ball cleaner, which would mean you'd be better with less bounce, or take big divots, which means a higher bounce would be better for you.

My divots aren't very big, Maybe just enough to skim the the grass or take he top of the grass off. What is bounce anyways?

Bounce is the angle created when the club is soled on the ground. More bounce the leading egde will rest higher off the ground, less it will be.. well.. less. A divot taker, driver/digger would like more bounce. I like about a mid and take decent divots.

I'd recommend a 50* gap and a 56* SW for a 2 wedge setup. With a mid-low bounce. 6-8* in the 50 and 10-12* in the SW.

For a 3 wedge setup I'd say 50-54-58

I looked up your irons and your PW is 46*.

Thanks.....so would the 58* wedge be good for those 40 yard shots at full swing? Also would happen to know what the bounce is on my PW that I have? I like how the PW hits.

I carry 47*, 52*, 56*, and 60*. Although I try to stay away from taking full shots on the 60* it is very reliable on easy 3/4 swings from 70-80 yards and in. From 30 yards it becomes a little more difficult. Without taking the risk and practicing with opening the face it is going to be very difficult to play from that range on a full swing. And even with an open face I would likely not want to take a full swing.

Depending on the circumstances I would use anything from my LW to a 7i from that range.

To me it is much easier practice a finesse shot from that range than to try an master one that requires a full swing.

well how far do you hit your PW?

I don't know about a 58 going 40 yards...I can hit my 56 100 or so when i connect well.

It all depends though.

Yes, those are a good deal for new wedges. I like the 13* bounce in the SW. That will help you out of bunkers and crappy greenside rough situations. Ideally IMO a lower loft gap wedge would be better. Not sure how well that 60* would play either but if you are willing to put in the work it could prove a good club for those short shots you want to master.

BTW- How do you guys hit an LW over 100? My 58 goes about 40yds. max.

I hit my PW about a 100 yards I've read some reviews on that 3 wedge set and it seems like everyone likes them so I think I'll be buying that set as it is a very good price for 3 clubs and from what I've read, Adams is a good brand.
