Thread: Switched to Srixon balls. Yipes.

  1. Switched to Srixon balls. Yipes.

The last two months or so, I have been visiting the local store every few days, and picking up a sleeve of balls. Every ball they sell, you can buy just a sleeve. (Which really is awesome.) Anyways, Ive played NOB,NOP,Prov1,Prov1x,b330, and basically every other "performance" ball. Picked up a sleeve of ZURS, played them, liked them. Picked up another sleeve of Prov1's. I really am not a person who has a wierd ball complex, hell anybody can make a topflight spin back if they catch it clean. But, the real kicker for this, I spun back a 3 iron from 215 today on a par 5 for a 5 footer for eagle. So, I ordered 3 dozen from tgw, and got a free srixon towel. Anybody else play these? They seem to go just as long if not longer then a ProV, They feel topshelf around the greens, and $5 cheaper a dozen then ProV1's Im sold.

I've played the ZUR-S a couple of times and thought it was really nice, but almost identical in every category to the B330S. It was only short-iron/wedge spin where I thought they differed, where the B330S had just a touch more bite on it. I'd like to try the ZUR-C sometime soon.

  4. I bought a sleeve and played them (ZURS) in Kentucky and they're as good as anything out there.

  5. I heard Srixon had taken 2nd place in the golf ball market, I dont know if this refers to on tour or just general sales.

There's two other great thing about playing Srixon balls too:

1 - Using one let's you into a little secret club (like people who play component clubs) where you can give a knowing wink to anyone else you meet who plays them.

2 - You're unlikely to get any confusion over who's ball is where if you're playing one, unless you play with equally informed friends who have them too! The first time I played the ZUR-S it was with three guys I got put with all using Titleists (DT So/Lo or NXT) and we spent forever shooting between balls to work out whose it was. No problems with my Srixon!

I believe the correct answer would be neither or not even close.

I would say without a doubt that Srixon isn't the top 10 in retail ball sales or top 5 in tour use.

What would be the number 2 tour ball behind titleist?? I'd hazard a guess at nike/callaway as they have thrown a lot of cash into the golf market...but I could be way off....

    anyone got any ideas

  10. Srixon is the #5 company in ball sales. In front of Srixon (in no normal order) Titleist, Bridgestone, Nike, Callaway. Yes even Taylormade balls don't sell like the Srixon company. I am thinking of switching over the to the dark horse but its tough to leave nike.

  11. When I talk about retail sales I dont mean company specific, I mean brand specific. This means Accushnet isnt number 1, instead the brand Titleist is. I would guess Titleist, callaway, topflight, pinacle, precept, bridgestone, maxfli all outsell Srixon by a large margin.
For tour use, it Titleist by a land slide. Callway is second, Nike third, Bridgestone 4th, 5th is a crapshoot, with a couple of players playing a few different brands.

I think there was some confusion....While I don't believe they're number two, the parent company Sumitomo Rubber Industries makes many lines of golf balls for many companies....aside from their own brand (incidentally SRIXON's name is dervived from:
    Sumitomo
    Rubber
    Industries
    X (meaning the unknown factor)
ON (as in Onwards! Or "Go Forward")

Sumitomo also makes the Dunlop line of golf balls and a few others....so as

I would think Acushnet would be #1 followed by Bridgestone, then maybe Sumitomo or (believe it or not) Volvik and then Callaway.

  13. I forgot about volvik. For slow swing speeds volvic is the best ball on the market.

I dislike the Srixons, just feel to hard, particularly off the face around the greens I just get inconsistent spin for my short game, most of the time the ball releases to much. Its long, fair enough, but just to hard

I keep going back to the Pro V1,but since the new X came out I've stuck with it,its perfect in every way for me.
