A couple shaft questions

right now i'm playing dynalite golds in my irons and am just launching the ball way too high. i was looking at some shafts, mainly DG X100s, S400s, S300s, and Rifle 6.0s to try to bring my ballflight down some.

after measuring i'm pretty sure my Revs are a .370 hosel...can't find anything to back it up tho.

in shafting irons, there seems to be two hosel sizes: .355 and .370 . in woods a .335 shaft will fit into a .350 head with a shim, can the same be done to irons? i've seen some good deals on WRX for shaft pulls, but all seem to be .355, just wondering if they'd still work.

secondly, i think i've outgrown my YS-6+ X flex. my best hits are ballooning like crazy and are going nowhere. can anyone recommend anything to me. looking for something 65-90 grams, for a 110-115 ss with a quick tempo, very hard swing from the top. keep it reasonable...easily found at under $60

The Dynamic Golds, Black Gold or Rifles will all bring the flight down for sure vs. the Dynalite Golds.

You do hit your irons pretty high and I'd think almost any of those other shafts would work well for you. I thought the Black Golds were a little harsh when I hit them. If it were me, I'd look at the DG's or Rifles.

I checked the Golfsmith OEM database and I couldn't find any data on the irons. If you want to be sure, I can measure the shaft for you with the trusty digital calipers. I'm betting with Maxfli they are .370's though. Lyle or Rock are the guys to answer the shimming question but I wouldn't be as comfortable with shimming stell shafts on an iron irons as I would a graphite shaft on a driver.

BTW, did you get out Tues. morning and if so, how did you play?

yeah i finally found a website that confirmed the .370 on the Revs, I guess i'll just have to wait until some .370s pop up.

in the meantime i think i may have found my new driver shaft... the Grafalloy Blue Tour. I was bombing a 905R with a Graf Blue in stiff into the net at work today, but thought it was wayyy too light. the Tour model is 75 grams which would suit me so much better. anyone have any experience with it?

Matt, didn't get to play, apparently tuesday morning is a senior league time or something......bah, me and my dad are going to play at this nice little course over by Lake Perry on Thursday, should be fun.

When the .335" tip shafts are shimmed to fit .350 hosels, it is ok to do as both are parallel.

.355" are taper tip shaft and .370" are parallel tip shafts. If you are desperate shimming can be done, but it is more tricky than with the wood shafts and it is far from ideal. So, I recommend that you do not try to shim the taper tip shafts into the parallel tip hosel of your clubs. Wait until you can get the shafts with the correct tip size for your clubs.

You chaps love your shaft specs. After 6 years I just found out that my Dynamic Gold shafts are S300's when I had just assumed they were regulars!

I swing around 90mph with irons so they are way too stiff really, but seeing as the ball goes OK should I bother changing?

Seems to me a 90mph 5-iron SS fits S300 perfectly.

Really? Thought you were supposed to be around 100mph for such a shaft? Looks like I might have stumbled upon the right shaft by complete fluke!

EDIT: Maybe I've got my info wrong. My driver gets to about 100mph so I just knocked 10mph off and assumed my irons were about that, do you think this is correct?

Well, I work at dicks sporting goods, and do a little bit of club fitting. When we determine which flex of a shaft to recommend, about a 95 mph driver swing speed is the cut off or so. Some slower people with a higher tempo need stiffer. So if your 100 mph with a driver, you should probably stick with the stiff.

This sounds to me like you're a prime candidate for an AccuFLEX Evolution...

A few things.

The S400's are simply out of spec S300's. They just fell over the tolerance for weight. Most will be 4g heavier than an S300. Stiffness wise they will be exactly the same.

Those Maxfli's are .370 parallel tip. Do not try and shim .355 tapers into them.
I know a few people who have done this and it almost aways leads to premature failure. IMO the .370's are better because you can frequency match them making a far more consistant feeling set.

With your tempo and swing speed you would most likeley see far better results with a heavier driver shaft than 65g. Try something butt stiff in an 80-90g weight.
Try this here Grafalloy Golf Shafts: Blue LD Wod Shaft

Should fit the bill nicely.

" I used to play all the latest clubs from the major OEM's. Then an insider friend of mine told me that all the clubs are made in the same factory in a communist country somewhere. Well, I thought this was terrible. So I threw that name brand crap into the lake at my club, went home and got on the internet. I came across a company that manufactors quality golf clubs on the planet Mars. That's right, Mars! Turns out they can keep operating costs low because of their proximity to the sun, while still using legal alien labor! So I bought a set for myself, my wife, son, mother -in-law, and neighbor all for $149.78!!!! Say no to major corporations and their overpriced products. Log on to ww.bullcrapmarsgolf.com!!

is it possible to shim a .350 wood shaft into a .370 hybrid hosel?
I searched "shim" on golfworks and golfsmith and saw a bunch of options, but none for .350 to .370 - any ideas or links guys?
