Question Question for driver shaft hos

Assuming the same head and loft, say a Titleist 9.5R in 10.5°, what difference in ball flight would you expect, with a 95-100mph swing, between
1- a Aldila NV in regular flex
2- a UST V2 in stiff flex

Apparently, I'm finding a need to spend more money that I don't have.......

Depends on which weight in each, especially the V2. The 67 and 76 are entirely different shafts in my experience. 76 is like a tipped 757 stiff and the 67 is like an Rflex Prolaunch.

Your SS is about 5 mph higher than mine. I hit the V2 67g reg.-flex. Fits me perfectly. I agree with Ez that it feels a bit softer than the ProLaunch Red reg. flex I tried. I like the V2 a lot better though.

Let me rephrase this question, then:

Currently I have the 905R in 10.5° with the 65-R Aldila NV. My ball flight is a high rainbow with carry out to 250 yards. What shaft, weight and flex should I try with this same head to get a flatter AND longer flight? Or am I chasing a mythical beast?

Yes, I know I need a higher swingspeed. It's easier to reshaft.

If you like the feel of NV in R flex, just move up a weight class or two to the 75 or 85g versions. The heavier shaft will help you flatten out your flight, increase your accuracy and should have no ill effect on distance.

That's a good idea. Thank you.

I went by Bonaventure, the only large golf store we have here in the center of the golf universe, to see what could be found in Titty drivers:
905R 10.5° Aldila NV 65-Stiff for $160
907D2 10.5° UST V2 76gm in stiff for $350
907D1 10.5° VS Proto 60-R for $400

This store used to have a launch monitor and hitting bay, but they took it out because "kids were wasting too much of our time".

I really need to get to Atlanta to a PGA superstore so maybe I can get some hard numbers.

Let me rephrase my answer...

I have hit both the V2 67g reg. flex and the NV65S. With different heads and different balls.

I have never hit either shaft with the 905R or the 907 series.

So if you want comments from someone who has hit the exact same clubs you're looking at, I'm not your man...

I can say that I like the feel, ballflight, and dispersion characteristics of the V2 with the 10.5 MX-500 head I'm using. I hated the NV in whichever head it was that I hit it in.

Based on the feel, launch, and dispersion characteristics of my 67g V2, I would guess that the stiff 76g V2 would play very straight, with a penetrating (if somewhat low) ballflight. I think the stiff V2 would be OK with your SS. The regular feels good (read stable and forgiving) to me and my 90-95mph SS, and I get excellent distance.

I've got the reg flex 75g V2 in my 905R (bore though) which stiffens it somewhat and it's a nice penetrating trajectory. I hit the V2 67g regular and stiff flex and I got a higher trajectory. I think the heavier weight helps, at least for me. This shaft in my 905R has also been spined and I don't know if a poorly aligned spline has any affect on loft.

All good answers, thank you.

I just had a DUH! moment, and figured out that I will be 15 miles away from the PGA Tour Superstore in Duluth GA in 2 weeks. That's when I will be playing the GA Public Links at The Trophy Club. (I played the course yesterday and shot a 86. EWWW!!)

The store stays open til 9pm on Saturday and they have launch monitors and supposedly will let you hit any club in the store. I hope they will also allow me to hit my 2 drivers so I can get some data. Does anyone know for sure?
