Maxfli Black Max...

Anybody tried these balls? I was at Dick's sporting goods and they were going for $12/ dozen. At that price I almost cant go wrong. Anybody played them? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!

they are a good ball... good spin, and pretty long.. and for $12, a great buy...

The Black Max is a premium ball. Pretty damned close to a ProV1, good feel around the green, and very straight. The feeling I get from them is one of solid dependable power with good spin characteristics.

They are my favorite, although lately I've tried the D2 Feel, and for $1 a ball they are right there with the Black Max for me. I paid $22 a doz. for the last couple of Black Max's I bought.

$12 at Dick's is stupid cheap.

Buy a bunch (I'm talking five dozen or so). If you don't like them I'll buy them from you.

Thats what I thought, I have always been a fan of Maxfli balls. Especially the Revolution Tour ( great ball ). I think tomorrow I will be picking up a few boxes...

Remember that there are TWO versions of the Black Max on the market - one the original in a black box (see top pic) that is a a tour-level three-piece ball that was discontinued several months back, and the 'new' Black Max Distance (see bottom pic), which is a two-piece distance ball aimed at the budget end of the market.

I'm definitely talking about the Black Max, not the BM Distance. I've never tried the Distance ball, but I'll stick with the D2 if the $12 is not for the "real" Black Max.

The BM Distance is actually a surprisingly good ball. I was playing that before I picked up two boxes of the original. A very good ball for the price. I never felt like I was being shorted. Manages to be quite tacky.

Black Max (3 piece) ball is very good. I like a ball I can control 150 yards in and not sacrifice distance. Fits the bill. Bought them at Golf Galaxy this spring for $19 and I thought I got a deal.

The ball is a joke.On one 70 yard wedge I had a pefect round white inprint on the club face,and the grooves were full of the cover.The ball was just useless durability wise,even the Bridgestones are better.Yet again we come back to the Titleists as the best all round ball.

What ball? There are several different ones being discussed in this thread. Please be precise. And put down the shotgun...

Good news, the one I am talking about is the one in the top pic. I even asked the guy at Dick's if it was the 3 piece version and if the price of $12/dozen was right. As for durability, I didnt expect a whole lot. Frankly at this price its worth it. I love the prov but for the same price per dozen of the prov I can get almost 4 dozen of these. ANd for me, who is just as likely to lose 2 or 3 to a slice into the woods, thats just fine for me. I can deal with a scuffed cover after a wedge shot...

I had seen the Distance version for 2 for $25 the last few months. If it were the regular version I would be filling a shopping cart. Although I just picked up 10 dozen of the Tour Fire that I have not even started on yet. I think the Tour Fire and Black Max are very comparable and could even be the same ball. Although I think the Tour Fire feels a little softer. So I would likely take the Black Max over the Tour Fire at 2 for $40 just for the sake of the money. Had they had that deal when I bought mine, I likely would have bought 20 or more.

My BlackMax (3pc) balls usually lasted almost a whole round. I think you posted something about the V1X lasting 54, right Dave? I couldn't see the blackmax doing that... but I didn't chew through them nearly as fast as you. I thought they were great for the money. If I saw them for 12$ I would've loaded up. The lowest I ever saw was 20.
