Mx-25's don't make me a happy camper.

I picked these up last spring to replace my Titleist 822's that were starting to get a little beat up. I think I've given them a chance 30-40 rounds & they're short. I'm a fat old man with distance problems anyway, but a smooth 6 iron with my Titties got me a reliable 150 (unless i did bad) . The same swing, at the same ball, on the same course by the same hacker (that's me) will be shorter (around 140). I've started to feel like I need to go after every shot to get there.

I use a skycaddie, so I have a pretty good idea what distance I'm getting. They're going into the closet & I'm resurrecting my 822's.

Am I the only one who thinks this?

What are the loft differences between the 6 irons? Also, the MX-25s are shafted with some pretty high flight shafts; are you hitting 25s higher as well?

There's always the "who cares what number is on the bottom?!" approach where you just adjust the club you use accordingly...

Well, I haven't played the MX-25's, but I did experience a similar thing when I went from my set of TA-7's to my current set of Tommy Armour 845 V-25's. Lost about 15 yards per club.

I reshafted the 845's with Dynalite Golds (I too am a fat old man - though I do still have my hair...) and that got me my distance back. Nice high (but not not too high) ballflight, and my yardages are where I expect them to be.

Do what I did - buy a Dynalite Gold shaft and put it in your six-iron. Test it out. You might find those MX-25's to be what you had hoped for.

6 iron (and all other) lofts are comparable.
Titleist 822OS - 29.5 degrees - Graf blue R-flex - soft stepped.
Miz MX-25 - 30 degrees - stock R-Flex graphite

I understand the club number on the bottom thing, but I've really gotta have an iron I can hit 170 yards comfortably. I feel the loss more acutely in the longer irons. On Sunday I was on a 170 yard par 3 with a 4 iron and felt like I needed to rip it to get there. We all know what happens when you try to hit it too hard.

Somethings not right.

I've got hair - it's just grey.

I'm going to put the 822's back in the bag for a month or so & see. Might swap the shafts out.

I bought an almost new MX-25 6-iron from flea-bay to see what they were like. Didn't feel right at all. Don't know if I lost distance but it sure wasn't as easy to hit as my Pings. And I did't notice any "feel" advantage.

Well, if you're hitting R-flex graphites, and only hitting a 6-iron 140 yards, then the steel Dynalites might not be an upgrade.

You're right - something is wrong.

I've got no problem with the feel at all, and even though my ego is very healthy (or so SWMBO says) I've got no emotional stress problem hitting a 9 iron at 100yards.

I need something that goes 170-180 yards. I've been throttling back on a 22* hybrid to get 175 yards & thats just crazy.

The titties are going back in the bag. If they're short it's me. If I get distances back, Mizzies will probably be claimed by one of my kids. Now that I think of it I guess I'm lucky the 822's are still here.

FBK - you a bad, bad man.

maybe the lengths are off for you/ different??

one more question, do you feel as though you ae hitting it in the same spots in the face as the titties?

I'm comparing good smooth swings and pure shots. On a par 3 that according to the Sky Caddie was 137 yards, I hit a pure 7 iron, nice high trajectory, right at the flag, the ball hit and stuck. It was short & I had a 25' putt - missed it.

On 18 I had about 90 yards to carry water, Skycaddie had 101 to front of green & there was about 10 yards between the green and the water. Solid smooth PW, hit the far bank and bounced back. I dropped another and hit the same club, this time I "leaned on it a bit" and it dropped about 5 yards over the water.

I hit my share of clunkers and can't really say that they're short based on bad shots. These were not fat shots, but good pure "thwacks" (you know the feeling), with a small divot after the ball.

It's not like I'm talking about blue light specials, these are by God Mizuno forged irons. I am not a big hitter by any means, I just don't get the distance I should.

I'm going to play the 822's for a while (long enough to make a fair comparison) & see.

MX-25 irons may not be long, but if you shaft them correctly for your swing, they certainly are not short. I hit my MX-25 9 iron about 150 yards tee up. My driver swing speed is 105 MPH so I am not some super big hitter.

It's not the irons. It's the shafts or the hitter....
