How reshaft my irons

My irons are 0.355 tapered and I need some heavier shafts now I am getting fitter.My current shafts are 120g plus 5 strips of lead on the heads,and I am starting to struggle

some Project X in 0.355 taper are on Ebay so...........

i assume I don't need to trim them,or tip them

so how easy is it to take mine out and put these in,and how do I do it?

It's very easy Dave.

Just pour boiling water onto the ferrule so they slide up the shaft out of the way. Then you need a blow tourch to heat the hosel section. The epoxy will melt and start to bubble then you can slide the head off using an oven glove. Clean hosel out and attach new shaft with epoxy.

I'll come over and give you a hand if you like? Sure i can skive for an hour or so quite easily.

Steel shafts in irons are easy, particularly .355's since they're tipped.

1. Heat 'em up...
2. pull out the old ones (being careful not to burn yourself)
3. clear out the hosels (old glue)
4. sand the tips on the new ones (so the glue sticks)
5. Add ferrules
6. glue them in
7. Butt trim for length - after dry
8. Grip 'em.

Dumb thing not to do is pick up the still hot head, then drop it on the carpet when it burns your hand. If you do, you'll have to explain the bandage on your hand and the burned spot on the carpet. SWMBO was not very understanding, nor sympathetic about the pain & suffering.

We kid ourselves on that we are getting fitter, usually after several ales. I've started looking for senior flex...Project X!...FOOL!

It all depends on what you are after.

I have installed about 2 dozen sets of project X shafts. Although they are a great shaft they tend to have huge spines and the spines are rarely ever aligned with the fancy project X stickers. So you have 2 options. Spine align them if you have the equipment and have the stickers pointing in every which direction (or simply remove the stickers). Or install them so they look good and take your chances.

Next are the ferrules. Do you care how clean and neat they look? It will be hard for a first timer to get them looking flush, and polished perfectly. You might come close, but again dont bet on it. Same goes for installing the grips. If you have never done it before it can be interesting.

So yes it can be easy, or it can be a disaster. If you want them perfect I would say take them to someone with experience. On the other hand however, if you want to get better at stuff like this then you need to start somewhere.

Dave Dot, if you so happen to do it, please remember and wear a pair of goggles. The Assistant that was at my club before me was reshafting one time and a swingweight flew out, hit a wall or two, shot past his head and to the other side of the room. That would have caused serious, serious harm had it have pierced the skin. This guy went to put his coat on later that evening and it had landed in his coat pocket and burnt a hole right through it.

i say try it...with the money youll spend on getting them done you can get a spine finder and do it yourself...im currently learning about doing all of this myself...currently i have shafted a set of knockoff irons, 2 sandwedges, my 2 nakashima wedges and just did my driver last friday...i dont have a spins finder yet but its comming...i need to post pics of my first made clubs
