Question for Scotty Experts....

My favorite Scotty model is the Napa..... but they are so hard to come by, and those on the bay and similar sites are usually some of the most expensive models out there (other than the limited editions, custom finishes, etc).

Why is this? I suppose the Napa's are not made any longer, or were not made in large quantities like the Newports and other Ping Anser Clones?

I have an ancient Ping Anser 2 which I adore, and have putted with it for more than 15 years. I am typing this as quietly as I don't want to upset my Ping, lol... but I am liking the Napas a lot. Are there any other heel shafted models? I am not interested in the Anser Clones, obviously.

Is it possible to get a Napa for less than $300+? I'd even go for a beat up model and drop the $200 on a refinish at the Scotty Studio....

Is the

They just aren't made that often anymore so you are going to pay through the sphincter to get one.

I'd rather not have to have things going through my sphincter thank you very much.

This story is going to KILL you...

I took a truckload of stuff to Goodwill, and while they were emptying and sorting, I walked around the parking lot, which was filled with stuff, like a yard sale. I spotted a couple of golf bags leaning against the back fence and wandered over, only to find find two Scotty Napa's sitting there.

I grabbed both and asked the guy "how much?"

He said (are you ready?)..."A BUCK EACH."

I gave one to my Dad, and kept the other.

cleaning scotty's

I came across a 97 scotty newport blue gunmetal. it's all rusty and wanted to know if there was a way of cleaning up all the rust and getting it back to looking good.

mlib626, welcome to shottalk - I'm certainly not a scotty guru, but I know they offer restoration services Scotty Cameron

you could always go to town with some WD-40, fine steel wool, and some Flitz metal polish - but I'm sure they'll do a better job if you're willing to make the investment

It depends on how deep the rust is. If it's surface rust no problem, Flitz, like Rick suggested, is good. If it's pitted let an expert handle it. After the rust is gone, keep it oiled to stop the rust from coming back. That soft carbon steel that Cameron uses can rust during a round if not oiled.

Can you post pics?

I am asking this honestly...

Why in the world would someone spend over 300 dollars for a putter?

Because i havent found anything cheaper that feels better.

(although I paid just under 300 for it).

I'd go with cheaper if it felt better to me, but alas...

I don't know, I admit, I do well with putters. It just is so beyond me why someone would even spend 100 dollars, putter is 99% talent.

Once again, it is to me, anyway. If you use a putter as a crutch, then you'll never have the ability for it.

Granted, this is somewhat true with all clubs, but the putter more than anything else.

Man, i could go out and still shoot pretty well with ur 2ball if i went and practised with it, but it just wouldnt feel right to me.

Ive literally hit every putter i could find, but i just couldnt find anything i liked better than the pro plat SC (which was originally wat i was guna get instead of my studio style, but my mom messed up at xmas). Now im back to it and i have literally never putted this good.

I can go out and stuff similar just wont feel as good, granted if id have bought a 5$ walmart putter and practised all these years with it too, i probly wouldnt like a scotty, but now that it works and its in the bag, it was worth every penny I spent on it.

When this one gets worn out, ill send it back to Scotty and get it refinihsed and put it back in the bag, this one's in here for good.

I am close to agreeing with most of this. The 99% number is too high... but you're on the right track.

As I mentioned when I started the thread, I've used the same Ping Anser 2 since 1988. I did have a Bulls-Eye Heel Shafted blade I used for one summer, but then back to the Ping, and only the Ping. It's a great putter, and in great shape. There is really no need to change it.

But I do like finer things.... I only buy fitted baseball caps, and have had some custom made from some teams which no longer play, including leather headbands on the inside of the cap. When I bought a jersey of my son's favorite ballplayer, I made sure I got one with sewn on letters and numbers. My wife sewed on the World Series and Busch Stadium Inaugural Season patches to complete the look.

I use a new ball every round. Cart Path scuff? Back in the bag for another day, when I play the Par 3 Course with the kids.

My clubs are always clean as can be, cleaning out the grooves after every shot.

I regrip my own clubs, and use higher end grips. I like Winn G8's at the moment. I did my own Paint fill on the Anser 2.

Scotty Cameron Falls right in line with that. The Custom shop, custom finishes, pick your paint fill colors, and engraved initials. I was thinking about each of my kids initiails, instead of my own. Custom grips, a million different head covers out there, etc.

If I was ever going to change from my beloved Ping, I would NOT be for another off the rack putter that might show up in the same foursome one day.
