The One That Got Away

Alright, between all us hos this is guna be a long thread

What was that club that you shouldn't have gotten rid of?

Mine was actually two, both drivers.

905S with BiMatrix (probly THE ONE)
Nike Sumo with PI 95

I could probly go through a few woods, but I always seem to screw around with those, irons, wedges and putter are fine for me.

Man, where do I start?

Like very ho in the world, I've hastily got rid of heaps of clubs over the years that in hindsight I should have kept. Some that immediately spring to mind are also 2 drivers. A Cally GBB 10degree I had fitted with a pro force 75 in stiff, and a Titleist 975JVS fitted with a grafalloy Blue in stiff. Probably not as forgiving as the driver's around now, but I hit some of the longest drives in my life with those two. Might be because when I owned them I was 10 years younger and played 3 times a week, but hey.

I also really regret getting rid of a set of powerbilt TPS 6.0's I had. I got them with the wrong shafts (no fitting in those days) and practically gave them away. In hindsight I should have had them re-shafted. I also had a set of Maxfli revolution's that I should have kept.

But the ones I really should have kept was a set of precept tour premium forged CB's. When I was using them I was a 7.6 on the way down, but I thought I needed something a bit easier to hit so I got rid of them and proceeded to blow out to 12, where I've pretty much stayed. The guy I sold them to dropped about 5 shots during the same time so that made me feel good. NOT!

Nothing really for me. If it was that good I wouldn't have gotten rid of it or would build another one. There were plenty of clubs I really liked looks wise but for me performance has been mainly based on my swing.... as long as it's a TM, all others are crap. I had a 200steel tour issue "ridgy" with a VS Proto 80-X in it briefly. That club had an actual grind on the leading edge to blunt it and it belonged to Patrick Sheehan. It had definitely been used a bit so I imagine it saw some action on tour. Really cool stick but I couldn't resist the nearly 150% profit I made on it. So it's not "the one that got away" in a sense of hitting it well but it was truly one of a kind. If there was one I'd want back purely based on the "coolness" factor, that would be it.

Remind me not to sell my tour prototype Titleist wedge either, lol. Thankfully it didn't sell. After my lessons I really learned how the hit it and it's only a matter of time before I hole out from 100yds. I've had about 5 shots with a total of 3 feet from the hole adding up all 5 distances in the last month and if I'm not mistaken has been the approach club on all but 1 birdie I've made in that time as well.

My one was my Mizuno Mp001 460 with regular NVS shaft. I got this when the composite top drivers first came out and this thing sailed past all my previous longest drives on each hole at my home course. Unfortanatly I listened to the people telling me I needed a stiff shaft and sold it. Instead of getting a Mp001 with a stiff shaft I became a driver ho!!!! I am a FOOL

So far, there is nothing I've sold that I have a great desire to have back. Once in a while I miss my R580 XD, but not in a big way.

We'll see if it's still that way after this round of sales...

To this day I still regret selling my Mizuno MX20s. Those were the perfect balance (for me) between feel, foorgiveness, and appearance.

I guess my old Warbird Hawkeye from when I started playing golf. I wouldn't use it, but I miss it.

I miss my Wilson Staff Pitching wedges that my grand parents bought me at a flea market when I was 7 or 8 years old. They were from the 50's and had leather grips. Played one of them as my pitching wedge for many years until I bought a new set after I graduated from college. When my parents sold the house, they sold my old golf bag including the wedges in a garage sale.

I sure do miss that pitching wedge.

well it didnt really get away but i got it back

When I was younger and stupid, i had a bad day golfing, well putting. I had recently bought the new Odyssey Rossie II mallet putter. After the 18th; unfortunately there was water on the back side, I chucked it in the pond. I didn't care it was all the putter not me. Several months later i go back and i see a Rossie II mallet for sale in the club house. It was determined to be mine, one of the golf ball getters (divers) found it and turned it in. They were selling it at the club house for like 25.00 cause the rust got to the shaft. I bought it back and played with it until the shaft needed replaced completely. It worked great for a while, now its just a paper weight at the house.

That is hilarious fuzzy.

I don't think, no matter how angry I get, I could ever put one in the drink. Balls sure, clubs no.

My uncle (who's responsable for getting me into golf) told me about a fella he played with regulary. One day he had had a shoker of a round. Our 18th is a par 3 across a pond. After completing his round he took his bag over to the pond and threw the whole lot in. He then told everybody to leave it and to get to the bar as the drinks were on him. When he got to the bar he was searching his pocket for his wallet then it dawned on him that his wallet & car keys were in his bag!!! He went back to the 18th retrived his bag from the pond, took his keys and wallet out and threw the bag back in again!!! Some lucky junior later retrived the bag and contents and was allowed to keep it!!!

There are three sets of irons that were "special" and I would love to have any one of them back.

Had a set of 3-LW Eye 2+'s with ZZ65 shafts that were awesome. The ZZ65 shaft seemed just right for the +'s. The ball did not balloon like it did with some of the other shaft offerings.

Had a set of WRX BeCu ISI's 1-LW with S400 DG shafts. Traded a kid for these and, shortly thereafter, he was arrested for dealing in stolen clubs. Got scared and dumped them. Should have done the standup thing and asked the local PD if they were "clean". Probably could have kept one of the nicest looking and playing sets I've ever had in my bag!

And, had a set of Nickel ISI's that had been in Dave Stockton, Jr's bag on the, then, Hogan Tour. They were equipped with X100's and swing-weighted at D5. Nah!! There's no way I could play those things again. Heck! I couldn't play 'em when I was younger!!! Those nickel faces had these tiny, dime-sized circles right in the center. Man, walk onto a course and someone see those and they knew you were a player!!!

Went to the "big city" last week and visited 3 large shops. Sad, but nothing on the shelves, today, even tempt me to move away from the Eye 2+ BeCu's.
