Question Power Hitter - Does it work?

Does Power Hitter by Momentus Golf really work? 20 yards in 20 mins? Has anyone tried this?

I know a couple of guys that have one of these and they love it! I don't know about 20 more yds though. The Power Hitter forces you to take a controlled swing due to its heft. That extra weight also forces you to release the clubhead; actually it releases by itself and you're just along for the ride.

I'm not ready to go buy one myself but I do use the origanl momentus for drills and warming up before rounds.

I don't know. I can't seem to generate any clubhead speed with my Momentus. Balls only go about 20 - 30 yards. I'm confused. I guess I just have to keep working at it. Hopefully this terrible pain I have in my shoulders will go away. Kind of fun being able to pick your ball off the green without bending over.

I tried the one Twofast had and it was OK. It's just a heavy club. I didn't see any big difference except it made my driver feel lighter and as Eracer alluded to, some shoulder pain the next day. I'd rather use a sandwedge to groove my swing.

You swing a bit faster than I do. Did you get any shots to go more than 30 yards with the damn thing?

To tell you the truth I don't recall actually hitting a ball with it, just practice swings. I use a 44" piece of rebar wrapped up in electrical tape now.

I've got the mens version, cause my dad uses it as well... And that thing can GOOOOOOOOOO... Not as far as my actual driver... I'm meaning maybe about 175... Just got to try and control your swing and not hit at the ball...

How the hell do you hit a ball with a piece of rebar?

I have enough trouble with the Momentus being such a short club. I've had to weld a piece of iron pipe to the thing just to save my back from getting sprained as I swing down.

OK - just to make it easy for everyone. I DON'T HIT BALLS WITH THE MOMENTUS. THE COMMENT ABOUT MY SHOULDERS BEING SORE WAS A JOKE.

And this comment: "Kind of fun being able to pick your ball off the green without bending over," referred to my arms being lengthened by a foot after repeatedly swinging a heavy...oh, never mind.

Dave - I'm afraid smileys are a necessary evil around here.

Hmmmmmm

Ok, I was thinking about getting on myself. I think I'll pass now. If my arms got any longer I'd have to have my shafts cut down. But you say it would help groove my swing? Maybe I'll try and find someone who has one and try a few swings with it?

I obviously don't hit balls with it.

I actually like to stick a shaft in the ground at about a 45* angle and use it like an "inside approach" while I swing the rebar. I'm just concentrating on getting the club into the slot on the downswing, not trying to build up speed. My speed comes from my hips and that's not something I want to use a heavy club to work on. That's just asking for an injury IMO.

In all seriousness, I think a weighted club is a marginally useful tool. I know that there are better golfers than I who swear by them, pointing out that they encourage development of a "big muscle" swing. And that's true. But to me, the swing produced by a weighted club is simply not the same as a full swing with a normal club. I believe that proper drills, along with good feedback, are more effective.

I like Ezra's rebar idea. Throw a few wraps of grip tape on, slip on a corded grip, and you've got a heavy club for 1/10th the cost of a Momentus. Make sure you make it short enough. You definitely do NOT want to hit the ground swinging a piece of rebar.

i have one and i like it in a sense that it's a heavy club that i can actually hit w/. i feel the lag lot more and can tell what my hand is doing throughout the swing. because it's so heavy, it's hard to over power the club like you do w/ the regular club. you feel the lag retention and full release. this being said, it's a great tool to ingrain a muscle memory if you have a decent swing but if your swing is little off, it'll ingrain that, so it'll do more harm than good.

i use it more and more during colder season to warm me up. i've hit it close to 200 before and even put it in play for couple of rounds. i bought it for 120bucks, and i don't think it's worth the money really. i would get the club w/ the dual hinge though. i think it's called medicus.

I have a weighted club but prefer this instead.

Igotcha Ready

It goes right in my bag and I use it to warm up. I don't have to worry about carrying an extra club in the bag. It has 3 settings for stretch, release and tempo.

That looks like a product that could have won the Golf Channel show.
