Thread: Scotty Cameron Putters, Good Buy or Overpriced?

Scotty Cameron Putters, Good Buy or Overpriced?

There's this regular at the local golf course I play at that's trying to sell his Scotty Cameron Studio Newport 2 that is in mint condition, doesn't even look like he's used it for many rounds. I'd say that he's taken less then 8 putts with it, but he's trying to sell it. Guess he didn't get the wife's approval first before spending $250 on a putter...

What I'm asking is should I talk him into selling it to me for $125 or if I should stick to my current putter. My handicap is currently around a 15, thought my putting is steadily improving. My current putter is a Nike T100, 34 inches, the one he's selling is 35 inches.

If you can get it for $125 that is a good buy.

Cameron makes very good putters but not everyone likes them.

  3. I suggest buying it. I've putted with Scotty putters for about 6 years now and wouldn't use anything else. You get what you pay for. Sure they are expensive but they are also the highest quality putter you can buy.

  4. The only thing about a 35 inch Scotty is it will prob be the 330 gram headweight. If you're ok with that, then go for it. I was in the market for a 33" before but it's important that they are not cut. Because then a 35" cut to 33" would still have the 330g headweight instead of the normal 350g that accompanies a 33" Scotty putter

*All references above are to the Newport model.

I think I might pick this one up for a friend of mine. I'm a relatively short golfer (I'm guessing 5'7" is on the short side). So maybe a 35" isn't the optimal length for me. The 34" I use now I tend to choke down an inch or two.

I'll probably end up getting this for my friend and look for a 33" or 34" for me. You think the 33" would suit me right?

It just depends on your stance and what you feel comfortable with. I'm 5'10" tall and I used a 33" Cameron J.A.T. until recently switching to a 34" 340g Newport 2.

  7. I'm about 5'11 and have a 34" putter that I choke down on. I have already chopped it once, and thought about chopping it again, but I like the feel of it now, so until I start putting like Ian Baker Finch I will leave well enough alone.

At 5'7" it sounds like a 33" would suit you fine. I'd go to a proshop that had scotty's in 33 (rare - seems most places I see stock the 35's for members etc) and try one out if you can.

  8. The great thing about Camerons is that they have a strong resale value. Heck, some even appreciate!

Is the quality twice as good as say a Ping or an Odyssey? How much better is a Cameron in quality? What is different then any other pro-line equipment? I have always been puzzled by the high prices and would appreciate any insight that would explain the difference between a Scotty Cameron and any other pro line equipment.

  10. i've seen the cameron putter for $500!!! seems hardly worth it. I personally think that a putter is a putter.

  11. I think the Scotty Cameron is a great putter but too much $ for me. I just bought a Ping Anser D that I like very much for $90. I put what I saved towards my new G2 irons.

  12. I have a 33 scotty newport 2 and love it

  13. i just bought a Cameron Mid-Sur with a 36 inch shaft as well as the long shaft, so we'll see what transpires(god i love that word)

  14. SC is greatly overpriced!

$250 to $300 for a new SC! Nice equipment, but for that price I would expect significant results like never three putting again. However, I know that won't happen.

Buy a new Ping putter with similar design to the SC and save big bucks. Better yet, visit a shop that sells used putters or EBay and pick up a used PING.

Some golfers say that SC equipment must be better since that is what the Pros prefer to play. Last time I checked Pro golfers were using other club makers equipment. Furthermore, the Pros don't buy their own equipment it is given to them by the club manufacturer.
Work is for people that don't play golf.

  15. The camerons are milled, not cast which creates a softer feel. The camerons are very closely watched for weight and imperfections. Enough to warrant the extra money? That is a question only you can answer.

If you pay $300 for a driver do you expect it to go 275 and hit every fairway? Why not spend that much on a putter you use twice as much?
