Bang for the buck

Hi gang. Looking for a little club advice. I am looking to "upgrade" my wedges, but am on a limited budget. I don't have the scratch for $100 or more per wedge. My short game has definitely improved over the last season, and I think it's time to reward myself with improved equipment to match. Who do you recommend as mfrs to consider for "value" in this category? I have a Tour Edge JMax MB gap that I like a lot and was considering more of the same, but am open to other ideas before I hit the shops and start gawking.

Thanks!

Have a look on Global golf for some 2nd hand Callaway X-tour wedges they are superb. The 58 & 60 models have Mack Daddy grooves and don't half rip the ball back!

I've got a set of Ping Tours that I'll make you a good deal on ($90 for a 52-deg., and a 56-deg., shipping to US included.) I like these wedges a lot, but they can't kick my beloved Srixons out of my bag. I can post photos if interested.

The Tour Edge wedges are a great deal, I would have snapped some up if they had my lofts when I was looking for wedges. Great deals to be had on the Srixon WG 504's at TGW. They are awesome wedges that were in the $120 range, new, until the 701's came out.

Forgot about that. I would grab the 504's at the price they're at now.

If your not into shinny and fancy, take look at Cleveland 588 RTGs They work alot like the old Trusty Rusty's. Can be had at great prices right now. I had a set and they served me very well. I gave them to my son cause he got me a new set of CG14s, If the 14's dont work like 588's I am taking them back.

Another option would be Wilson Staff Tw7's. Less than $100 brand new and they spin a ball very very well. I would look into those. Global must have some somewere..

Get some used ones in good condition. I'd get raw ones, steel wool them down and get some "gun blue" from Dick's.

Games People Play has a 3 peice set of Mizuno MP Raw Haze series wedges for $119.

MIZUNO MP-T RAW HAZE WEDGE PACK 53°,56°,60° - (eBay item 370009238531 end time Jan-03-08 13:18:20 PST)

You won't find a better wedge for $40 per.

They also have the Watson 3 pack for $75 on their retail site. That's a great deal too.

Failed to mention I was kind of locked into Golfsmith via giftcard...I ended up adding another Touredge Jmax (60*/7*). I will go back for a sandwedge when I decide the bounce I prefer. The sand is usually pretty firm on the courses I play (low buck public courses, suits my low-buck quality of game), so I'm thinking I need a little less bouce in my sand wedge. Thanks all for the advice and suggestions, they all looked great.

You can usually find the Cleveland 588 Gunmetals for under $50. Probably one of my favorite wedges next to the ones I bought, but they were around $100 when I bought mine.

Golfsmith has the 900 for $49, never tried the 900 though. They also have the Callaways for $49
