Another "Oldie but Goody"

I finally took the Sonartec SS-03 that I got from IG to the range today. It's shafted with a Fuji VP 80-S. This thing is nice. I hit it off a very short tee and a "regular" 3w height tee. It's money off the tee, mid to mid-high boring flight. Off the bare mat, just as good. Hitting it a lot higher than I'd have thought. I like this combo, it's got a distinct kick through impact and plays very similar to 5W and irons. The cool thing was I could turn it over and get a little draw, no fear of the hook. I'm bagging this thing, great club.

The old Sonartec SS line is GREAT. A few months back I was looking to add a 19* fairway wood to the bag for a little experiment. I picked up a 19* SS-02 for cheap and it has been just solid. The look and feel of the Sonartecs are just awesome.

What loft is it?

The only Sonartec fairway I had was an NP-99 three wood. I got rid of it because it was too much club for me at the time. I wish I still had it, because it would be perfect for my bag now. It was so solid and beautiful. They make just great clubs.

Just grab another one over your next round of hoing. If you scour Ebay for a week or 2 you're bound to pick one up for like $20-$30. I wish it wasn't so darn close to my 17* though. I'd hate to mess with that setup since I love the 17* but a 19* Sonartec would fit the bill better. I gotta stop somewhere.

Are you starting a Taylormade purge like I am? I'm very tempted to pick up another NP-99, and build a component driver. Than I'm free from the dark side!

Looks to be heading that way. In a few days I'll have one TM left, the 17*. I can't see parting with that since it's custom built and I basically hit it 225 high off the deck as easy as a 160yd. 7iron. Off a tee I'd probably have to close my eyes to miss a fairway. Looks like I need to find a new hat. What's going to be my predominant brand now? Looks like Miura and Titleist... and I'm probably going to grab a 21* 585h hybrid off GG if it's still there when I place my order, it's too cheap not to. I wonder if my Rocket Tour will fit over the square driver?

Damn, Ez. I never thought I would see the day you did not have a TM product in your bag.

I see that you blowing out your Burners in the classified section today for the quick sale. Is the FT-i that good or are you just anti-TM now?

Nothing against TM stuff, just basically an experimentation. I liked the feel of the FTi all around and I was putting some beastly swings on it. I've read a lot about how forgiving it is and the ball speed #'s off it.

Going off the Sonic launch model and using a SS of 113 in Boston, MA on a 70* day, considering a smash factor of 1.5, launch of 16* and 3000RPM spin rate.... 295yds. of carry. Considering I have a carry around 250-255 with a decent swing on the BurnerTP, I think it's worth a shot. Hopefully I can "bring it" more agressively as well as find the fairway more often. If not, I'll go back to a BurnerTP and find the best shaft/loft option. The FTi will hold it's value better anyway so it's kind of a win/win. I get to try something different and if it doesn't work out I'll have more $$ to throw at the BurnerTP combo in the spring anyway.

I think you need to change this thread title to "How to Ho"!

Actually, that would be a good idea for a blog. Ho'ing is an ever changing process. We have blog space now, Ez.

Man that 585 21* will treat you well i presume. Just picked one up and it was real nice in the shop. Doesn't have the tingy feel of the rescue tp, but it's incredibly solid. What shaft is in the one you're looking at?
And wow this is weird, I'm also moving away from Taylroamde and becoming a Titleist snob. In the summer i had: Taylormade Burner, Vsteel 13*, R7 Steel 16*, and rac 52/56* wedges. Now all i have is the driver, and I have Titleist 3wood, Hybrid, Wedges, Putter, and Bag.

I was looking at a steel shaft but changed my mind. I ended up buying the FTi off Callaway pre-owned instead. It was cheaper than GG but in worse conditon. I was willing to live with a few scratches for the $65 savings. I'm sure GG would have had a better deal on one in lesser condition, the only had one though and it was mint.

I may go back to a 21* hybrid, all depends on how the 3iron goes on the course. It was alright when I had it out last month. I love it off a tee but it's obviously tougher off the fairway or moderate rough. If I do go back to a hybrid it will most definitely be getting the same Nippon as my irons though, no other shaft will even be considered.

Glad you like it and are hitting it well. I played it for 2 seasons and loved it, it's money dude! But I have the say the TEE CB1 is awesome.
