Question Suggested Clubs

Hello I am saving up for some new clubs. I'd like some suggestions on which ones I should try out at my local golf store. I'm looking for some irons not more than $450.00. I'm 15 years old and my 7 iron swing speed is around 70mph. My instructor suggested I stick w/ steal shafts as well. I also am more into the muscle back type even if they are harder to hit. I think I am going to look at Nike Ignite Irons and Taylor Made RAC OS. Any suggestions are welcome.

If you like muscle backs then I would not recommend ignites or rac os's. They are about as far from muscle backs as you can get. If you want to hit better shots, then I would recommend them.

As Mike said, OS2 and Ignites are far from musclebacks. I would recommend you shy away from blades / musclebacks, even though they are indeed sexy.

I would recommend taking a look at taylormade LT 2005 irons. They actually look somewhat like a blade, with a fairly thin top-line / sole. but the difference is they still have a large cavity. I played my LT2's for a long time and loved them.

I honestly believe that muscle backs (although look awsome in my opinion) are not the proper design for you yet....and for good ones, far exceed your budget.

But you CAN get a compromise...like a progressive iron set that goes from long iron CB's and muscle back wedges....

Theres some really good sets out there that I feel have excellent quality and performance...which you should be able to score deals on..

Companies I'd look at would be:

Nicklaus
Armour
Adams

I agree completely. Before getting muscle backs settle your game in. Be patient and when working the ball is second nature muscle backs are in the bag.

Another choice is to go to a semi blade forged iron for cheap to try the blade like performance out. Used Hogan Apex plus irons can be had on ebay for $150 shipped. Very good club. Apex shafts are made by Royal Precision. They have some forgiveness, allow you work the ball, and will point out your swing faults. A good value to get you started that direction. They have been on the market long enough that their value does not deteriorate much now. Do not be fooled by price. These are very good irons. Do search on these forum for other posters experiences with Apex plus irons.

you might find wilson pi5s to be exactly what you are looking for... they have a blade like appearance at address with the thin top line and the club head is a little less than midsize... its not forged its cast and they cost less than 200 now on account of wilson coming out with newer equipment... but you can still get those clubs brand new on ebay and what not...

You have a Nevada Bob's in the mall at Eau Claire. They should have a good selection of used irons. They have indoor area to hit. Also there is a Golfsmith just west of Twin Cities that will have good selection.

Yeah I love the Nevada Bob's store the guys in there know me by name almost. Last week they didn't have any used clubs that the guy would recommend for me. He said to check back through the months and maybe I could find something. At the end of the week I should be ordering a driver

I hope you don't mind, figured I'd put links in here in case you have trouble finding the models. This is just easier than sending a bunch of PM's as I can edit it to add more. Global has 10% now so these will be 10% less at checkout with that "santa" code.

Cleveland HI BORE Driver 9.5 Degree Used Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com use the dropdown to switch to 10.5 and the one with the Rflex NVS is there.

Another good one and they have 10.5's with Prolaunch, NVS and the stock Reax, which is not too bad itself Taylor Made r7 425 Driver 9.5 Degree Used Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com

Hey thanks EZ I have a questions for everyone. Has anyone tryed the Taylor Made Firesole irons? I'm thinking saving for them and putting some True Temper Shafts and Winn grips on them and I was wondering what someone's thought was that actually hit them. I know they are an older model iron but they have to be a little bit bigger than what I have now.

You're 15 and your swing will change 12 times over the next 3 years as you grow.

Spend about $150 on some older, good quality irons like Titleist 981's, or mebbe some TM 300's. They're great style clubs for someone to devlope with. Use them to get a feel whether you're a guy who will get something out of blades as your swing & body changes.

Next, put good wedges in your bag - they're not subject to technology changes & give yourself a chance to learn how your wedges work.

Get a milled putter that matches your stroke. Don't screw around with anything but the best, Cameron, Mills, Bettinardi, etc. You hit this 30-36 or moe times per round.

Drivers, fairways & hybrids will each happen 27 times in the next 2 years, pick one of each, but give yourself a chance to get used to whatever you pick.
