I like my SG3 a lot. It uses standard AA batteries but I have been using AA NiMH rechargeables and they work fine. I also carry a spare set with me when I play "just in case".

As far as features go, it does everything I want it to -- basically a digital yardage book, assuming the courses you play are "4-star" mapped courses. It's a little less useful if you have to map the course yourself or is a user-mapped course. I would def. suggest you visit Sky Caddie's web site and check to see if your courses are 4-star courses -- if so then you will get loads of information about every hole on the course (driving range too!).

I'm not sure I'd go for the SG5 unless you are really set on the color display. It adds quite a bit to the price for no more usefulness. The SG1 and SG2 are not that much less cost and their displays are not nearly as nice nor do they have the features of the the SG3/4. If it were me I'd be looking for a good deal on the SG3. I got mine a year ago on sale for $289. After playing a full season with it I wouldn't want to be without it again.
