Project X vs. T step 90

Im a pretty new golfer. This is my second full year of golf I play consistently to an 89-92.

Would I be justified in replacing the shafts in my irons with some of the PX's? I found a "reputable" dealer on ebay, or so it seems. How much should a set of 3-pw cost me? The guy has a few sets on there from 149-169.

Another question is about having a driver shaft Pured. From what I read on golfsmith it would seem that its a pretty good idea and realitivly cheap anyone have theirs pured?

Getting a shaft "pured" is the same as getting it "spined", I believe. "Pured" is how GolfSmith makes it sound unique, or so I think... That being said, getting your shafts (ALL your shafts in all your clubs) spined is a great idea if it's feasible for you to do so.

Also; only replace your shafts if you think you're leaving something on the table. Ask yourself, what would I like to change about my ball flight? Are shafts the answer? How do these shafts differ from the PX's I might like to try?

Like, you wouldn't want to get a set of shafts that performs the same way the ones you have now do. Waste of money. New shafts are a possibly good idea, but make sure they're going to help you before you start dropping the money.

Good call. Im sure my instructor would help out with the decision. Just thought Id ask here if there was a big difference in the shafts.

Ill definitely get my new shafts pured or spined it seems pretty cheap for the results my friends tell me about.

I remember getting a driver shaft spined back before the computers did it.

He just put it in a vise and slipped the clubhead on, then twanged it and watched it vibrate. If the oscillation included sideways movement, not straight up and down with the clubface pointing up, he just slightly twisted it in the vise and reset the clubface pointing up, until when he pulled down on the clubhead, the vibration remained entirely 'up and down' and didn't go from side to side.

THat was the 'spine' direction for that shaft.

Theory being that if you bend a shaft with a downswing and it isn't spined, it might be moving the clubhead sideways as well as bending it back... so when you get to the ball, the head is not centered as well as it could be.

Wasted energy, uncertainty of impact, etc.

Brilliant stuff. Golf is about small metrics making big differences.

Of course, some shafts don't have a spine. And some have a spine but it makes so little difference that it isn't worth doing.

But you won't know until you 'spine' the thing.

Do youself a favor, If you buy them go get fitted first. Alot of times with variables in your clubs you need to buy something much different to play as what you need. I took a Rifle class and it was mindblowing, they had 6.0's that played as 7.7's in some callaways. If your fitter does not "believe" this, find another one asap.
