Thread: An inch underground ... what is up with golf tees?

  1. #16
I'm beginning to think that if Zero Friction would just do away with the 3 prong Mumbo Jumbo and drop the "Zero Friction" sales pitch, their existing customer that don't really care about the Friction part, would be alot happier and they may pick up a few in the process. The prongs bending is far more common than the tee breaking. Although I guess they have to be able to sell more somehow  I thought they were too expensive to even try until a friend gave me a couple and I kinda said "Yeah, whatever, I'll give it a shot" I figured I would play them until they broke. After I still had them after about 5-10 rounds, I realized they were really not that expensive and alot more convenient only have to put about 10 in my bag at a time as opposed to about 50. That and not having to grab more every 5 holes for my pocket.

Then again, who knows, maybe the 3 prongs act as kind of "Shock absorbers" and the reason the tees never break, because I know the thin wood ones they sale are a pain in the @$$ to get the ball on, and the tee breaks every shot.

Same reasone here. Plus I hate the superlong wood tees and the shorter ones always seem a tad too short. I use whatever broken tee for shots other than a driver since I tee every iron millimeters off the ground and fw woods about 1/4 inch.

tons of new technology everywhere.. but the most surprising was the number of new golf tees. Plastic tees, rocket tees, spring tees, brush tees, zero friction tees. a bit overwhelming!

What do you use? What do you think of the new golf tees?

Ray, why not come clean and tell us what you were doing at the show?
You weren't representing a golf tee company were you?
    Koviss golf perhaps?

    Just wondering.

Now let me steer this in the direction I think you actually want it to go.....spring tees.

I got 3 of these sent to me last year from the show and I have to say that I really did like them. Do they add distance to your drive? Absolutely not but they are very durable and make for interesting tee box conversation.

Have any samples laying around you want to send me?

I found some biodegradable tees that look and feel like wood but last much longer. No marks on my clubs and I can tee at any height. I actually purchased them on accident and now they're all I will use. Otherwise I only use wood tees with no paint. Can't stand paint marks.

  6. Well, the big tee at the show this year was the 4 yards More Tee. It has 6 tines compared to the 3 of zero friction. I have not had a chance to try these out yet, but if they are as indestructable as the the zero frictions I would consider switching as they are easier to place the ball on.

  7. haha!

Close! I am a freelance graphic designer and was looking for more design work at the show. I've done a little work for Koviss Golf (how i got into the spring tees) and I really like them!

  8. spring tees

I am surprised to hear that there are really just a few tees out there being used -- despite all the options. If you're interested in trying new ones, check out golftees.com, kovissamerica.com, zerofrictiontees.com. There are a ton of options.

All the happenings with golf tees makes sense to me. Upgrade drivers, golf balls, shoes, all that other equipment -- why not tees right?

    Anyhow.

Plain ole wooden tees' work just fine for myself. They are dirt cheap & a bag lasts a long long time. Tried the brush tee's & hated them, couldn't get the ball tee'd up high enough for driver. I use the 3 1/4" tees for driver.

Between last Christmas, all the tees I've been given by salesmen, and all the tees I've found no one in my family will ever need tees. So, I just use plain old wooden tees.

Par 3's? Whatever is broken laying around.

Same here, I tried the Zero Friction tees, but I like the wood better.

standard white tees as i get them from the course we play at by the handful. would much rather play normal unpainted wooden tees as i dont like the white marks on my driver, but meh, price is right for a college student.

I liked the epochs, but found the little notches broke really easily for me (the 4 little parts holding up the ball).

  15. Haha. I haven't had a problem with the Rip Stixx putting paint marks on the clubs. The only tees I had trouble w/ was the dollars ones from Dollar tree.
