Question An inch underground ... what is up with golf tees?

I got to go to the merchandise show in Orlando last month and found it to be quite the event -- better than disneyland but just as tiring.

tons of new technology everywhere.. but the most surprising was the number of new golf tees. Plastic tees, rocket tees, spring tees, brush tees, zero friction tees. a bit overwhelming!

What do you use? What do you think of the new golf tees?

I use the Epoch plastic tees since one will last me the entire round or more.

Just a standard 55mm wooden tee. I find that teeing the ball lower for my driver has helped me get a better connection and send it farther. (plus they are better than plastic tees for the green keepers mowers )

I started using Epoch tees about halfway through last season and I love them. I can't remember whether it was you tmag or Lyle that first recommended them here but I'm glad you did. I used Zero Friction tees before that. The Epoch tees have a stronger shaft so they tee up better in hard tee boxes (pretty common around here). They also don't have "tines" to break off like the zero friction tees either. I normally can use an Epoch tee for a couple rounds unless I lose it. They also make a "shorty" version, a little over an inch long that I use for par threes and when I tee off with a fairway wood or hybrid. Great tees and worth the money, IMO.

zero friction here, I use them because one tee will last an entire round and sometimes more.

ZERO friction tees. One tee will last me until I lose it, I have not broken one yet.

I use Zero Friction for my driver because I only broke maybe 3 over a span of 100 rounds. Although they will snap really easy in frozen ground even trying to put the tee in the ground.

I've looked for Epochs and have never seen them in the store so I use Wooden tees and broken tees for my irons and FW's

I have always used the same old wood tees, and the long ones. Never really tried anything else, hated the plastic ones.

The two problems I've had with Zero Friction tees is sometimes getting the ball to sit on the tee when it's windy and the tee is not exactly straight in the ground... and the shaft on them bends pretty easily after it's been hit a couple times so getting them straight in the ground is sometimes a little difficult, especially with hard tee boxes. I've also broken quite a few of the tines off them, probably because of the hard tee boxes too.

The Epoch tees have a lot better head design, IMO and the ball sits really securely on it. It's just a lot tougher tee overall, I think.

I buy mine at the local Golf Galaxy. TGW and Edwin Watts have them too, I see.

I played with wood tees for 30+ years and finally got tired of cleaning tee paint marks off the soles of my clubs.

I do have about 1000 natural wooden tees now so I still occasionally use wood tees for other than driver holes.

I was using Zero frictions until we started giveing away 20 000 white wood tees with "Whitepoint.com" on them. I used those as the price was right.

I find the Frictions go flying like crazy after you hit the ball and it's like a treasure hunt on each teebox.

Plus the frictions bend, and don't go in the ground if it hard and dry.

Zero Friction for the driver based solely on the fact that they do not break. Shorty wooden tees for iron and fairway wood shots.

Edit: I do keep some old fashion long wooden tees in the bag for windy days as the zero frictions can be a pain to keep the ball on when it's blowing hard.

I use the zero friction because they seldom break and I don't have to carry a pocketfull of tees....

I really like the Pride Prolength tees, with the colored band on them - I use the blue 3 1/2" ones, and find the band great for getting the same tee height every time.

An honorable mention to my trusty blue Brush tee. I can't stand the longer ones, but the little blue ones designed for 3w's are absolutey perfect and work brilliantly when hitting off the tee with a fairway wood.
