Callaway prototypes...

Was reading thru this weeks edition of Golf World and notice that Annika is carrying a mixed set with the 7-PW being the new Callaway Blade prototypes. I could not help but notice that they look almost IDENTICAL to the old Ben Hogan Channelback irons, I mean about the only thing that was different was the name on the back.

Here is a link to the ones I was talking about....I though Callway would be more creative than this...

Ben Hogan Golf Apex Forged 5 Iron #4 Stiff Steel - eBay (item 190202977171 end time Mar-07-08 15:11:41 PST)

They look almost identical. For a company looking to release its VERY FIRST set of blades, i would expect more I guess. I still thnk they look to similar.

Is this surprising considering Callaway bought Hogan for this very purpose?

Expect Callaway customer service and attention to detail with the feel of a Hogan. How sweet is that?

Not surprising at all or even really a bad thing. I just wish Callaway would keep Hogan around or release some new stuff for Hogan...

Apples and oranges my friend. Did you look at the Hogans and the Cally's? Can you not see a similarity there? They look VERY similar.

Yes, I did look at the pictures. A lot of blades look the same. Does that mean they are all copies of one another?

I would say that Callaway looked at what the got when they acquired Hogan and went from there. Different isn't necessarily better.....

They look nothing alike, they definitely are very traditional looking however.

bahaha

They remind me of every other iron set that callaway makes....very shovel like...these are the mizunos of All shovels (they are good, but only good for the category they are in....SHOVELS). As for me, ill stick to my Nike Blades

Hogan is going the way of the dodo. Unfortunate, but true. You'll see a few irons come from them, but everything else is being phased out.

I still have no idea how Callaway or anyone for that matter can call these a true blade. They have big cut outs in the back, or for lack of a better term, cavities. These are cavity backs, players cavity backs for sure, but cavity backs none the less.

What I heard from the rep was that the classic blade was dead. Not enough people demanding them to warrant alot more R&D as there's not really a helluva lot you can do with one. They're all basically the same, different badging.

He said that this was their attempt at the "blade" but with the positives of a CB.

I don't really give a shit about semantics, as long as it looks good and hits good shots for my swing, I'll play them.

These? Probably not.
