Nice!!!

Like your TA's, also.

This is kind of weird as I just picked up a set of Mac M685's on closeout to try. As you can see in my signature panel I also play TA's. Parallel worlds (cue the Twilight Zone music)?

I looked at the M685's. But the MT's spoke to me. They said, "Buy me, you idiot. Don't wait a year for me to be discounted. Buy me NOW!"

I love the look of the MacGregor irons, especilaly those new MT Pro-Ms. I played the M675s for a season and loved them (slighly thick top line) but lovely feel and great quality. Your new set looks like them at address. They look like a lovely set indeed.

The MacGs got jilted by the sexier lull of the Muiras (well I am a Golf HO!) and tbh I am still happy with them. Only things I am looking at these days are the new MacGs or the Tour Edge CNCs, both on the long finger.

The Pro-M's are beauties. But I'm afraid that if I bought those, the set of eight irons would become sixteen VERY quickly...

Great looking sticks. Get a pic outside of them all in the bag.

I'm like IG, I've had thoughts of an MT combo set shafted with x100's but parting with the current sticks is unbearable. If I start thinking of straying it means one thing, I haven't been hitting them enough lately.

Not the greatest pics. I'll get some better ones up soon.

Sweet looking sticks!! Love my Mac 565's but those could cause me to consider straying. Very underrated Mfr. IMHO.

Yes, you are a set behind. The J33cb's 6-PW were reshafted with Rifle 5.0's. Didn't like 'em. I thought about selling them. Didn't. Now they're for sale again.

No problem on the Armour 7-iron.

The set-up for '08 looks SWEET!

With all the gawdy GI irons that are being released these days it is so refreshing to see MG come out with a club that has all the GI features in a very simply classic design.

It's pretty hard to call a manufacturer with MG's past underrated. For whatever reason though they have fallen out of favor for the last several years. I think that will change this year though with the current offering.

I just think it is a shame that they lost Baddeley. He's game is finally coming together again and he's making his way into the next level of pro on the tour. They could have really used him to move the '08 offerings.

Maybe I should have said underrated over the last decade. To think you can buy awesome forged, forgiving irons for $250-$300 (M-565s, NVG2Mids or M685s) qualifies for underrated in my book.

I have to agree. I know MacGregor was a big name in the past. I don't think they've been on the radar for a while. Maybe with Greg Norman taking over they'll become a force again.

TBH, I wasn't even considering them in my search for new irons. And here I am with a new set in my bag (for now).

I thought I'd resurrect this thread with a review of my first round with these irons. It was cold, I was a bit stiff, and my swing was not great today. Not bad, but not great.

First, I want to talk about feel. I'm not sure what to say, since I've never felt any iron that feels like these. I only know one thing. I've never hit irons that felt better. Ever.

I can say that they feel "buttery", but they don't. Or "clicky" - but that's not quite right. Rewarding? Meh... I really don't know how to describe them - but I absolutely love the feel, however it's described. Perhaps I can say it best if I just say "feedback". I feel the ball in my hands. There is no harshness - none - even on off center hits. On well-struck shots, there is a wonderful feeling of compression. I was hitting D2 Distance balls today, and it was about 45ºF on the first tee, and my good iron shots felt like I remember a good shot with an old balata ball felt. I think the "cup-face" combined with the forged head really works. For those of you that play Vokey SM wedges - think same type of feel, but about three times better.

Distance was excellent, right where I wanted it to be. I think I gained about a full club over my Armours, and the trajectory seems excellent. I know the MT's have stronger lofts, but combined with the soft tip NS950GH shaft, I was getting a reasonable high ball flight, with no hint of ballooning. My iron shots tend to have a fairly penetrating flight, and the MT's are spot on in that regard. Speaking of the shafts, I think the NS950GH stiff-flex shafts are perfect for me. I was hitting Dynalite Gold R300 flex, and I think the Nippons in the S-flex play very similarly. Stronger players may want to reshaft these. For a mid-capper like me with a 90-94mph driver swing, the Nippons are wonderful.

I haven't had the chance to try knockdowns, but I did play around on the range with 1/2 and 3/4 swings with the PW, and I was able to control the ball quite nicely - something I always had a bit of a problem with when hitting the Armour pitching wedge.

Negatives? Well. I tend to have a steep swing, and the relatively narrow soles, combined with what look like fairly low bounce angles, had me digging a bit in some mucky lies. I hit a few 8-irons today that tore a nice chunk of sod out. The ball traveled much further than expected, but it's clear that a wider sole would help me in wet conditions. Then again, I've always had that problem, and I like the versatility a narrow sole gives me.

The NS950GH shafts are light - these clubs come in 10g less than my Armours (even with the Dynalite Golds). They do come in at D4 swingweight, and feel very nicely balanced - they don't really feel "light". I just have to be careful not to overswing. Learning not to overswing is a good thing.

I can't come up with any other negatives right now. At this point, I love these sticks. I think that anyone looking for a forgiving club that also offers tremendous feel should look at these irons. Even better players might want to take a look, especially if they can swing a split-set deal, combined with the Pro-C or even Pro-M short irons.

They are a bit pricy. Being new, there's not much discounting going on right now. The trend is for Macgregor irons to drop a lot in price after a year, since so few people buy them. I have a feeling that might change with these irons. I think once more people play them, the word's going to get out that the MT is a really good club.

I'm interested to know how anyone playing other Macgregor irons feels. Does this review describe your irons as well? Is Macgregor's cup-face/forged head technology that good? And if so, why aren't more people playing Macgregors?

Nice review!Just got a set of the M685's, they're getting bent for lie and checked for loft. I probably won't be playing them for a while, because were still in a deep freeze here. But a warm front is coming thru mid week so at least the range balls may not be frozen, and I can make some comments about feel.I can say the quality of build appears very good.
