New irons - MacGregor MT

Just bought a set of MacGregor MT irons. Standard Nippon NS950GH shafts. I've been pretty happy with my set of Tommy Armours, but I know that club technology has improved since they were discontinued in 2000, and frankly, I was looking for a bit more forgiveness. These MT's are game-improvement irons that don't look (or feel) like shovels. Forged stainless steel, cup face for forgiveness, cut channel to help increase launch angle, and slightly stronger lofts to add some distance.

I hit 10 shots with my Armour 6-iron on a simulator, and got the results I expected. About 165 yards average, with about 15 yards dispersion. Then I hit the MT's, and yardage jumped up to 175 yards, with about 3-degrees higher launch angle. Dispersion was much better. I loved the feel of the forged heads with the Nippon shaft.

I also tried the Nippon shaft in R-flex, and the S-flex is better for me. I also hit the Wilson Ci7 with the OEM S-flex shaft. To be honest, I liked the Ci7 a lot. But the MT had slightly better feel, and better dispersion numbers.

Full report next week after I play a round with them. I'm very optimistic that these irons will be an improvement over my current irons.

Here's some pics of the MT and Armour 6-irons.

Beautiful irons, Eracer. You'll have to do a review on them.

I moved this here as it seemed appropriate.

I remember when you bought those V25's. I hounded E-bay for a set for months afterwards and could never bring myself to pay what they were going for at the time. They were (and still are) silky smooth.

The Mac's look cool. I'd like to hear your thoughts and the differences in the shaft performance.

They came as V25's forged and V31's cast. A bit different but pretty much the same club, just way different feel.

I have to laugh, I saw a guy posting a new set of these on Ebay for like $800 plus shipping. Hilarious.

Better place for this thread, for sure. I'm curious to see how the shaft plays out. From what I've read it's 20g lighter than the Dynalite Golds in my V-25's, and has the same kind of active tip. The MT 6-iron swingweights to D4, compared to D2 in the V-25's (I guess that's the 20g difference?) Static weight is 10g less than the V-25's.

I didn't really have any problem with the Dynalites (R300) ballooning, so I think the 950GH should be fine.

I'll report back.

And maybe I'll have a set of V-25's for sale soon...

so I remember the pics I saw on WRX, but these Macs looks a little bigger than what i saw, their new line includes 3 different irons? a GI, a Player's CB, and an MB?

pending a demo, I plan on making the player's CB my next set of irons in one year or two.

You'll be looking at the Pro-C irons. Those are sweet looking clubs for a better player like you. The MT irons are a bit bigger, but they hide their size pretty well. Looking at the pic in the address position, you can clearly see the size difference. But from the side, they don't look much bigger than my V-25's, which have the nice compact head I prefer.
