Graman UL540

Hoping someone with Graman experience can chime in here.

I have the chance to get a Graman UL540 in Stiff flex (260 CPM) for a fairly good price. I'm wondering how it will play compared to the ProForce V2 I currently have in my Titleist 905 S.

My miss with the V2 is a fairly severe hook bordering on a snap hook (I think this may be a tip stiffness issue, but could be wrong). Will the Graman be worse for this or will it (hopefully) help me to maybe clear it up a little?

Thanks in advance
Nick

I love this shaft. It feels excellent, very smooth and active in the tip. It's very stable though. Never hooked for me, but that might have been the head. I hook V2s though, and can't stand the feel. Graman makes a great shaft, if the price is right, go for it.

ps, what color are you getting? Limeys are great attention-getters!

See the 'active in the tip' worries me a touch but my hooks might be caused by something different.

But I'm very much an exhibitionist, so guarantee you I'll be getting the Lime. They just look awesome to me.

The 540 is a lot stiffer in the tip than the V2

I am thinking about one of these for the 905R.

Which one would you say plays most like a Blueboard?

It was quite a beast tipped 1 inch. I would try it untipped first.

the ul780 is the most comparable imo. For an S flex blueboard replacement, get the ul780 in the 245cpm flex.

So my assumption is correct that maybe this shaft will reduce the frequency of the hooks?

I just feel that when I go after the V2 the head becomes unstable and this is where the right balls are coming from.

Really? Isn't the 780 heavy and super low torque? I thought maybe a 540 would be a livelier diamana type shaft?

The 780 weighs 75g at raw length, and is one of, if not the smoothest shafts I have ever hit.
As for the torque. I would take all Gramans torque ratings with a huge grain of salt. I have seen the 780 on a torque machine and it read about 3.3, how they get their numbers are beyond me.
The 540 feel a lot stouter and harsher than the 780, its also not near as consistent.

This is the best shaft I have come across in all my searching. For some reason it suits my game, swing speed, etc.

Go for it, sounds like it is not that expensive anyway.

Hooks are very, very rarely the result of shaft thats too soft. A shafts thats too soft may increase height and draw the ball a bit. A full blown hook, especially a snap hook is a swing issue.

The UL780 is not heavy by any means and will take anything that you can throw at it. Keep it untipped and get a 245cpm model. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
