Wishon irons

Ok, so contemplating going with Wishon irons, or maybe KZG. I have been playing Cleveland & Nikes. I have a clubfitter with both. I realize alot of you guys have far more experience with the component guys than I do. Wanted to get your personal impressions on each. Difference in quality etc....thanks everyone.

Wishon makes the best in the business IMO.

I have just bought, and am in the process of putting together, the new 555's this year. Almost all of my bag is Wishon, and soon enough, I imagine it will all be.

You really can't go wrong with any of his designs and he has clubhead designs for all skill levels.

If you are going to a pro clubfitter and are going to get professionally fit components clubs, you really can't do better than Wishons. You will have covered all your bases and you'll be ready to play the best golf you can play.

About KZG...

I don't know what the falling out between KZG and Wishon is as I'm too scared to ask on his forums. I do know that if you even mention KZG there, it will get edited or deleted. They have no problem if you mention Golfsmith, or Maltby etc. Just KZG.

For all the good Tom Wishon does for golf, I just take his grudge against KZG as justified and leave it at that.

I have have some Wishon designed clubs from his Golfmsith days that I no longer have in play, but will never get rid of as I may go back to them as they are some of my favorite clubs designs. I am more of a fan of his iron designs than his wood designs, but that is probably more of an asthetic issue for me.

Wishon has been on the leading edge of golf club design for many years, sometimes it takes a few years for his ideas to become mainstream, but I am sure that you will be satisfied by the quality of his products.

I was still gaming my Solid Tone 3w up until about a month ago. My plan is to reshaft it with something that fits me better and to refinish the head since the paint was starting to show its' age. IMO, it's one of the best 3w i've ever hit and that's saying alot seeing as how that club is like 14-15 yrs old.

I am still kicking myself for never picking up a set of his Harvey Penick Classic Player irons when they were still available. I loved the look of those irons and was really disappointed when they discontinued the Penick line altogether. I have a couple of Penick "Weed Cutter" fairway woods I have always meant to reshaft and put back into play, but the Tour Edge fairways will be hard to pull out of the bag.

I played clevelands and macgregors before finding Wishons - I'm in the process of moving my whole bag over to TWGT (I'll probably spring for the knit headcovers too)

I'm playing the 560's and they've been great

I'm not a huge fan of the looks of some of the stuff - the 770's for example, I think are kinda ugly - but if they work (and I've read lots of great reviews) who am I to argue

the 919 driver looks kinda plain on the bottom, but from the top, it looks much nicer than the TM Burner - it's also super forgiving on off-center hits

good stuff all around

I am in the process of having him build me a center shafted Wishon putter, that I fell in lust with at his shop. Having never played the component irons, it sounds like the Wishons would be a great choice. Thanks for all the comments.

As you can see from my sig, I play the Smooth 6.

I put all the weights you can fit in it and it is one heavy SOB.

It is center shafted, but I couldn't get the lie right, so I just bent the shaft slightly to get the correct lie. Threw the Wishbone Grip on it and it works wonders.

The insert on the Smooth 6 is, not surprisingly, completely smooth. I believe the putter came out about the time he wrote "Common Sense Clubfitting". In that book, in the putter section, he talked about some independent research that showed how to properly hit a putt. 1* upright angle of attack at the equator of the ball or just above it. It gets the ball rolling right away with no skip or hop.

Anyway his theory, I believe, was that a perfectly smooth clubface would help this action along. I can't complain about the results.
