Interchangeable Golf Shaft Drivers....Opinions?

Hi, I wanted to hear some opinions in regards to the new drivers coming out that have interchangeable shafts. I'm not quite sure yet where I stand in regards to these new drivers. I think I'll need to actually hit them first. What does everyone else think?

Anyways, I'm very interested to see if anyone has tried any of these new interchangeable shaft drivers or if anyone has some really good info as to if they are really going to be worth the money or not.

Too much technology for my taste, as for interchangable shafts..

I've editted your post to reflect the initial question and avoid your immediate demise.

This is your ONLY warning.

For the record, the interchangeable system is going to be bad news for the component industry. Just my hunch.

This is an interesting topic but the OEM's are doing it to only increase profits.

The Callaway I-Mix system (example) costs huge bucks for the head and you then have to buy the shaft (their choice of inventory) with their adapter from them only at more huge dollars. So you can't pick the lesser known shafts or (probably) better shafts from other dealers at better prices.

Component head maker Integra golf is coming out with a system for very reasonable $$$ where you'll get the head and five adapters that you can put on your own shafts. This is what will sell.

Ohh the horror, a company actually releasing new products in an attempt to relieve us of our cash & generate profits for them. Hmm, what a novel concept.

It's probably good for Callway since their bizarre design make it's impossible for a novice to save a shaft from one of thier heads anyway. The shaft prices for the Imix are a bit high, but if you consider the head + say a Whiteboard, that's like $629. That's full retail though. Now buy an FTi tour full retail, have the stock shaft pulled and a Whiteboard put in.... You are actually saving quite a bit with the Imix.

If these things catch on, someone, or several someones, will figure out how to make a fitting for any shaft that is exactly like the Imix one anyway.

My biggest concern would be the durability of the fitting, both on the head and the shaft. How long would Callaway warranty the Imix shafts after original purchase?

I agree with John Solheim. i think it will make things more confusing for novice golfers. I think a person is better to get fitted for a driver.

The purpose behind it is to get fitted with the opti fit system or by using demos and then buying the head and shaft that is right for you in certain conditions. They are promoting it in a way that if you show up at the golf course on a windy day you put your lower lofted head on the shaft. Also, as ez said, it is actually cheaper than the upgrades to those individual shafts, or having something pulled and a new one put in.

My callaway rep was in the store last night and was explaining the way it will work and the precautions they have taken in regards to warranties and "novice golfers" putting together these clubs. There will be a notch in the club head with a matching notch in the shaft so there will be only 1 way for the shaft to fit the head. This will decrease the chances of something going wrong.

IMO, the callaway i-mix is going to do much better than the Taylor CGB Limited. Which packages a head and 3 shafts that you cant even pick from. It is planned to retail at $1299 CAD.

Also, for any of you guys that do pull shafts from callaway product or put something new in, i found out last night that by doing that you kill the warranty of the club. To have it reshafted, you are to send it back to Callaway, and then you keep the warranty, such a tidbit of info i never knew and maybe you guys already know.

I like it for fitting. At the range they were flicking shafts out at will, fantastic to try so many head and shaft combinations. But I have picked one I would want it inserted properly, it just wouldn't feel right in my head unless it had glue in.

That is definitely one thing they are worried about, is the traditionalist, like yourself, that wants glue to hold the driver together instead of a "screw"

However the i-mix does fit together for like the taylor made selectfit, with a torque wrench at the hosel, rather than a screw through the "bore through" in the opti fit.

strange that the taylormade one will actually fit together more like the opti fit with a screw in the "bore through"
