Anyone still in love with the FT-i

OK, I know for a while there everyone on here it seemed was in love with the Callaway FT-i driver. After my horrendous showing in my latest tournament where I couldn't hit a decent drive to save my life, I'm looking for something a bit more forgiving than my HiBore XL. I still love it when I can get my swing grooved, but apparently it's not the most forgiving driver out there? Is the FT-i as forgiving on miss hits as they say it is?

You've got quite a few drivers now. Maybe a lesson is in order? Just get some basic fundamentals you can turn to when things go sour. It'll be cheaper than an FT-i. And that XL is no slouch. Tournament jitters?

IMO the fti is not that much more forgiving than the XL. Not really enough to impact your scores more than a shot or two.

It is definitely tournament jitters, and I've already contacted my instructor to schedule another round of lessons. I was just looking for something that might be less punishing when I mishit my drives in a tournament. Actually, I'm clutching at straws here if you want to know the truth.

BTW, the sig doesn't even list my CT250 with the V2 stiff, it won't fit,

Cobra L4V is more forgiving (and longer) than the FT-i Tour but a lot louder as well.

mdw, what is your wrist-to-floor measurement in inches?

All of these modern drivers are too damn long and that exacerbates the difficulty. My easiest to hit driver is 43.5" long and I'm taking the hacksaw to my fairway woods this week.

I just checked it myself and came up with 35.5 inches.

Good point.

MDW, try choking up an inch or so and swinging a few times. See if you notice a difference. Swinging a shorter driver makes everything a lot more controllable, and when you make better contact you hit the ball farther. So, you may not see ANY distance loss. Might even see an INCREASE!

So take your least favorite driver, cut it down to 43.5", and swing away!

It's worth a try and a lot cheaper than adding to the collection. If the wife sees another UPS truck pull up in front of the house I might be going through the big "D", and I don't mean Dallas !

This is true.

The FT-i is not a game saver. However, the idea of cutting down your driver to increase control is a good idea.

Just remember to add weight to the head again to maintain swingweight. The first time I cut a driver it ended up being something like C-9. I was disappointed until I added a little lead tape and brought it back up to a D-2.5 or something. It was an incredible driver after having done that. I think you will like the change.

I really like the FTi, have played it now for about a month and like everyone said, ugly swing will still get you an ugly result. Funny thing for me with this driver, the harder I swing the better (straighter) it goes. I should probably look into a softer shaft huh?. Currently using the stock speeder 686 in the stiff.
