Question Anyone else find Lamkins slippery?

I was just playing around with an "almost golf" ball in the other room, chipping it with my newly gripped LW (Lamkin Crossline non-cord) and the thing feels slippery as hell. Never noticed that with the TV.

I do moisturize my hands (I wash them frequently, and get peely-ish fingertips if I don't) but I don't think it's excessive enough to cause this slippage. Plus the ladies love it, so there's no way I'm backing off the Aveeno.

Is it possible something at the shop got on the grip to make it slippery? The other grips don't feel quite so "wet".

I'm expecting some lude comments here, so bring 'em on. I'll be disappointed in you bunch of asses if all I get are legitimate responses.

I'd recommend bletchley tire cleaner - I think that's what it's called - it's basically a cleaning solution for rubber - should remove whatever motion lotion you've got yourself all greased up with

I had a Lamkin Crossline non-cord on a wedge and it was a good, tacky grip. It's got to be your lotion.

Don't know about the Lamkins. I did discover the cure for a slippery GP Tour Velvet: 200 grit sandpaper. Lightly sand, then wash with soap and water, rinse, and towel dry. Better than brand new.

Good advice from Rick. I clean all my grips right after I re-grip. There is all kinds of rubber mold dust, maybe a little solvent residue and general grunge on all grips when they are newly installed.

I'll also clean them after almost every round. Keeps the grips like new for a very long time as the oils and acids from your skin don't have much of a chance to to break down the rubber.

You're the one that's slippery, not the grip.

You also use this "bletchey" mystery substance? I'd rather use soap and water than purchase tire cleaner to clean my grips...

But then again, I ought to clean my tires

Never had a problem with the crossline, found them to be quite nice, but like my gp t. velvets much much better. I would efinetly clean that grip off, I'm sure it will be fine. I would just use regular soap, that should be just as good as anything else without the added expense. Good luck.

Actually I use a citrus based grip cleaner from Golfsmith. I'm going to try Goo Gone since it's basically the same thing and cost about 1/3 as much. Wesley's Bleche White works great on tires so I think it should work great on rubber grips (not Winns, it would probably melt them ). I have some in my shop I may try and see if it has any adverse effects on the grips.

The bad thing about soap and water (if it's dishwashing soap) is that most soap has some kind of skin moisturizer in it (usually lanolin or something similar). This leaves a little residue on your grips, I've found. I've compared grips washed with soap and water and with the citrus cleaner and the citrus cleaner grips are noticeably tackier.

When I clean my grips with the citrus cleaner they stay clean and tacky for a round or two. I never have to sandpaper them, after a quick cleanup the surface is soft and tacky once again. I just do it every time I wash the clubheads, which is about after every round or two.

SOS pad works like a charm too. I do it once, and after that, the grip goes in the garbage.

Is this Wesley's Bleche stuff the same stuff they use as "tire black"? Is "tire black" just a really clean tire?

Dawn dishwashing soap works pretty good, removes grease and doesn't have any hand lotion. Side note, don't use it to wash your car, it'll strip the wax right off the thing.
