Ghetto Backweighting

So I went down to the hardware store and had a bit of a sniff around. I came across a nifty little bolt, as you tighten it it expands. Nice!! And a perfect size to slide snugly down the top of the shaft.

So I Ezra'ed off the top of the grip with a breadknife, slipped in the bolt, tightened and fitted the top of the grip back on.

The bolt is 75g so I still need to find 25g to make it to 100g. I also have a slight gap to fill, so I guess I can use some lead tape or look for a ring weight.

It's a neat little solution, eh. I can untighten the bolt to remove if I want. And it cost me £1.10 or $2.20. Result!!!

Very nice, do you happen to know what that type of bolt is called?

That appears to be the type of masonary fastener that you drill a hole for first. Good work, I never thought of using one of those. Just don't tighten it too much. It could burst the shaft.

classic

I actually did something similar with my putter, but instead of cutting clean around the shaft and removing the top/cap, I left the top part attached about 25-30% or so around
I figured I'd glue it back but haven't needed to because it's still attached

I'd like to know the name of that nut/bolt too - it seems very similar to the tour lock pro but without a rubber or plastic wrap

Wonderful.

Now if it was Ez, he would likely use his all in one gas stove to simply melt the grip down over the bolt to give it conformity and hold the end of the grip firmly in place.

This thread is making me extremely happy that not only did Tim mention the Drill bit, but that I decided to spend the Money.

Dude
DIY is not my forte, but looks like it is an M8 RAWL, I think it is used for masonry work. I'm sure B&Q would have it. You probably only need to trim the very tip of the grip, I figure I went 1/4" too much.

btw no idea if all this backweighting melarchy works but happy to try.

Is the top of that grip going to cover up the bolt now? I do have a coping saw... lol, a bread knife... how's the wife feel about that? You guys laugh but I've mastered shaft pulling with the stove. Pulled the Hibore shaft out and it's fine. Well, for stock shafts anyway, you will never see me trying to pull a Diamana or something out with it, lol.

Wow!

Tried my new back weighted putter this evening. Felt so much more solid strike, managed to get the ball rolling up to and past the hole. I had two 3 jabbs, but that was due to me blowing the ball past the hole.

Lyle dude, you may be onto something here! I will let the honeymoon period go a while longer before making any further conclusions.

Just use a big 1/4 threaded lag bolt with a rounded top. Tape the crap out of it till it fits tight in the shaft and hammer it in. The rounded top will sit flush with the shaft, then you can grind the overhang off anf putt a grip over top.
