Drilling out old shaft from FT-i head

ok guys, so last night, I started drilling out the old shaft from my Ft-i head. Have a question though.

Is the inner wall of the hosel the same diameter all the way down to the plug? I have been told that the total depth is 1.75" from the top of ferrule and 1.25" from the head.

Any help appreciated.

This is an FT-3 but the concept is the same. Notice the flange of the hosel.

Get this picture in your head and head back to the work bench. You'll figure it out.

awesome, thanks for the pic Rock.

I hope I didn't already drill that out though to the same diameter all the way down.

Is it safe to say that the hosel diameter changes when the ferrule adapter bottoms out. I believe it's about 3/4".

Also, I feel like a dremel might be a better tool to get the old shaft, epoxy out, anyone tried this approach?

I can't remember specific bit sizes, but if you've drilled 1.25" from the top of the crown, you're at the bottom. The top section is a larger diameter to recieve the adaptor sleeve. In order to properly seat the new sleeve, you'll need to clean that "lip" or "ledge" around the top section so that the adaptor has somewhere to properly seat.

Start with small bits and work your way up. Go slow, it's worth it.

I used a drill with sharp bits, and a small flat headed screwdriver, being mindful of the crown edge when leveraging things out of the head.

Do you still have the adaptor in the head? Pull that bastard out, it's just in the way. If you're drilling, you have to replace it regardless.

Was able to get the remains of the adpater out last night. Right now, just a ton of residue in there. At the bottom, I see this neon yellow/green plug. Just need to clean up I guess.

Golfworks, Golfsmith, Myostrich, wherever.

They're about $2-3 apeice.

Callaway .335 Shaft Adaptor

Golfsmith.com: Golfsmith GBB II .335 Shaft Sleve - Golfsmith

myOstrich Golf Clubmakers

They make some that can adjust lie angle and face angle, but they're $12 each.
