e5+ is what i play now, used to use pro v1x but they just got to pricey, 25 for a dozen bridgestones, and they are a high spin ball but not a very soft feel like the pro v's

The B330 and B330S will be more like the ProV's, although I don't know which one will compare to which. The e5/e6 series would be more like the Titleist NXT series or whatever is current in that range (I don't play Titleist).

yeah the B330's but I don't know which is which. I played with them for awhile but they just got shredded with my weges and looked like crap after one round. I hear good things about the E5 and E6 but never played them.

The B330-S would be like the V1x. The S is softer feel, slightly more spin. I've played both and can't tell much of a difference. They're incredible golf balls IMO.

King Par is an unknown quantity at this point
The B330-S is like the V1x? Isn't the V1x a firmer version of the ProV1?

I've always thought the B330-S was the softer one out of B330 and B330-S and thought the ProV1 was softer out of the ProV1 and ProV1X.

The B330 is the comparable ball to the ProV1x, it is slightly firmer and lower spinning off of the irons and wedges.

Ah. I thought the V1x was higher spin. Clearly I'm not a titleist guy

I took part of this Bridgestone Ball Event thats going around since it was in my store, and after all of it, I still prefer ProVs and One Blacks. *shrug*

The closest to the x will be the 330-s.

The Srixon Zur-S is (IMHO) alost identical to the B330S and both hold up really well for me. And I like them better then the ProV1x... especially since they're not as expensive...

This is why the different x's and s's and f's and numbers and colors and whatnot probably just confuse people more than help.

The bolded statement isn't right. At least not according to all the company's literature.

The 330S, where the S stands for softer or spinnier, is more like the softer of Titleist's balls, the ProV1. The 330 (with no S) is firmer and a little less spin, like the ProV1x.

No, as been mentioned, for most people, there probably won't be much noticable difference. Heck, even in that Golf Magazine article earlier in the year, the difference between the two flavors of high end ball was pretty small. Didn't the ProV1x spin more than the ProV1 in one of their tests, too?

Based on each individual manufacturer's website, here's a list:

The higher spin/softer ball is first, then the firmer/lower spin is second:

Titleist: ProV1, ProV1x
Callaway: i,ix (until recently the HX Tour 56, HX Tour)
TaylorMade: TP Red, TP Black
Srixon: Z-URC, Z-URS
Bridgestone: B330S, B330
Nike: One Platinum, One Black

I think that's all the really big ones.

I do think that if someone would come up with a naming scheme like: FTL-HS and FTL-LS with the -LS and -HS meaning low spin and high spin, that's simplify things quite a lot.

It is pretty confusing, that's for sure.

I think one problem in coming up with a common naming convention like that is you have more combinations than two, given the two, three and four layer balls now.

You can have a thin, soft cover ball that spins a LOT around the green but very low spin off the driver.

Or one that's the similar but with a firmer cover that spins less off irons and wedges. Then you can have a softer or firmer core. And on and on with all kinds of variations in-between.

With the newer multi-core balls and all the different cover materials available to the manufacturers, they can make just about any combination of cover, driver spin, wedge/iron spin and compression characteristics they want. And they do.

The TP Red is the lower spinning ball from Taylor Made, it is even further confusing by what they put on the boxes. The TP Red is for players who already have higher spin levels and the Black is for players who generate lower spin rates.

The ZUR-C has a firmer feel than the ZUR-S, both are higher spinning off of the shorter clubs with a smaller difference on nine iron spin rates than the other companies have between their tour level golf balls.

Aye, thank you Bignose.

I woke up with a nasty headache and nausia from a rough night, lol, right before I went to work.

I realized I mixed it up as soon as I hit the road.

BStone, you're right.

I got confused about the way TM labelled it: TP Red is for "higher spin players" -- I took this to mean players that want higher spin. But, the little graph under the "Technology" tab shows the TP Black as the higher spin ball.

I put the Z-URC in the first column because of this quote from their website: "The cover of the Z-URC provides more spin with all clubs and greater control with approach irons " But they do also say it has a firmer feel, so I guess then that those categories cannot go together:

OK, so revised list:

In terms of Spin: more spin first, less spin second:

Titleist: ProV1, ProV1x
Callaway: i,ix (until recently the HX Tour 56, HX Tour)
TaylorMade: TP Black, TP Red
Srixon: Z-URC, Z-URS
Bridgestone: B330S, B330
Nike: One Platinum, One Black

In terms of feel: softer first, firmer second:

Titleist: ProV1, ProV1x
Callaway: i,ix (until recently the HX Tour 56, HX Tour)
TaylorMade: TP Black, TP Red
Srixon: Z-URS, Z-URC
Bridgestone: B330S, B330
Nike: One Platinum, One Black

Any other corrections that need to be made?

BTW, getting this kind of information is like pulling teeth -- from the manufacturer's own websites! You'd think that they'd want to make information like this available so that we could buy exactly what we would want, but considering how difficult it is to find this information, it really makes me think that it might be deliberate.
