need fitting advice

Hello all. Please bear with me. I'm brand spanking new to golf. I need to learn because a significant portion of my job requires entertaining clients, and golf seems to be the way to go. I've never picked up a club before in my life. Here's my dilemna: I'm 6'8", with a wrist to floor measurement of 40". The mediocre club fitting I recieved ( no local shops or pros) indicated I should get +1.5 clubs. I don't want to drop a ton of money on clubs when I don't know if I'll stick with it, or break them over my knee in frustration. I have found several modestly priced sets that I can get in +1. The several hundred dollar jump up to +1.5 clubs is prohibitive.

Would I be okay learning on the cheap +1 clubs, or would it just help create and reinforce bad swing habits that will be hard to break if I stick with it and decide to upgrade to properly fitted clubs in the future?

I appreciate any input/advice. I'm a fish out of water with all of this.

WOW, if I ever I have seen a candidate for a TLT fitting you are it.

I would be willing to build you a set at cost, plus shipping just to prove the value of this system, especially to guys your size. No offense but you would be a perfect guineas pig so to speak. If you are interested let me know and I can work out some numbers for you.

King Par is an unknown quantity at this point
If you do this, let me know how it works out. I'd be interested to hear. I'm a taller guy myself(6'7"), but I have really long arms. Me and my instructor had the same wrist to floor, but I was about 9 inches taller. I'd be really interested to hear how this works out.

Agreed

I recently built a set for my sister's boyfriend 6'7", 38" WTF former D-1 offensive tackle - the swingweights don't even register on my scale - he hits them straight and a mile though - the TLT thing makes perfect sense

Dude, what an offer. Do not turn this one down, I would be willing to bet that Lyle can hook you up with a TLT fitted set cheaper that just about any OEM off the rack price.

Definitely take Lyle up on his offer. You can get some excellent clubs, fitted to you exactly and at a very reasonable cost. (Ask him about a set of Acer 905's )

Also, business golf is a great thing. I do some of my best business networking and selling on the golf course with vendors and customers. Plus it beats sitting in an office somewhere...

thanks for all of the good info guys. I appreciate it. Is there a list of TLT fitters out there somewhere by region? Just trying to figure out how far i'll have to travel and how much it will cost me to do the fitting to take Lyle up on his offer. Hopefully they won't laugh me out of the shop once I get there and attempt a swing. ...I'm also guessing I won't find a fitter here in the middle of wyoming.

Just PM Lyle. TLT can be done without actually meeting.
