What ball should I be using?

I have spent many hours online researching golf balls, and I am more confused than when I started. I can't seem to find a ball that perfectly fits my needs. I almost think the ball I want doesn't exist.

I am looking for lower ball flight and added accuracy, with added playability around the green.

I am, however, a 20 handicap, and lose about 2-3 balls per round. So throwing money at the problem with a tour ball may not be the solution. Distance and high ball flight are not an issue for me. My SW, for example, goes higher and longer (108yds) than anyone I know with a handicap as high as mine. So I don't care about distance and ball flight, and minimum side spin is still important to me.

Is there a ball that is a perfect fit me? Or do I just need to work on my swing, so I can add a tour ball to my bag?

the ball doesn't really add accuracy or lower trajectory. it's mostly depended on your swing and your equipments.

but i think e5+ by bridgestone might be a good ones to try.

It sucks but I really don't think there is a mid priced ball that will do what you want it to do. Lower ball flight you will want a low spin ball off the driver. You can find many balls out there that are low spin off the driver but they will be low spin around the green also. You just have to play it to roll out more on chips and try to hit high shots to hold greens with your irons. I played the noodle a few years back when I was in school and broke all the time. It was soft and low spin off the driver but I never got it to check up around the green it would always roll out. I'm sure some people will say you can find a mid priced ball that is low spin off the driver and will still spin around the greens but I have never found it.

What I do to save some money on top end balls is to buy them on-line on e-bay or lostgolfballs.com You should be able to buy 5A or mint balls that are just like new for around 30$ shipped. So you are saving about 10 bucks per dozen, you can also save more money and get 4A or 3A rated balls but they will show a little more use.

If you want a accurate ball off the driver and one that wont spin to much I would go with the ProV1x or the Tp Red LDP by taylormade. I loved the 1X but I have made the switch to the TP Red because it is very low spin off the driver more than the 1x lower overall flight and its great in the wind but it will still stick on greens on full iron shots and it has a nice little check around the green on chip shots.

Play a ProV, the new ones and play in front of me. Whatever premium you like, buy them used. I've been playing 5yrs. and have bought new balls once. It's ludicrous to spend $4 for a golf ball and lose 3 of them a round. I guess someone has to though, otherwise I wouldn't be buying them for 75 cents.

Top Flite D2 Feel. Closest your going to get to a premium ball perfromance for $1 a ball. You will give up some spin around the greens, but it has more spin than any other 2-piece ball I have tried.

Bridgestone E6+ it flies incredibly straight but still feels very soft around the green on pitch shots and putts. You can get a dozen on sale for 21-23 bucks. I'm also about a 20 handicapper.

I use anything I get my hands on.

For a good price? Nike Power Soft, or Bridgestone E6+.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I bought a dozen Pro V1X (2007 used AAAA) and will try them out. I am also going to buy a sleeve of these Bridgestone E6+ everyone is talking about. It looks like their answer to the Pro V1. I hit them at a Golf Galaxy when I bought my 10.5* Ping G10. Now that I think of it, they went alot lower, longer, and straighter!

I agree with this 100%. These are probably the best all around "cheap" balls made. I still play these as my everyday ball. I don't mind it when I lose one and don't feel bad about taking a scuffed one out of play anytime during a round.

I keep recommending these to any of my mid-cap and up friends who lose or scuff up balls regularly. Most of them play and score exactly the same as they did with ProV's and ProV 1x's except they can now afford to lose 4x as many of them for their money...

I have been using a lot of "found" balls recently, mainly Prov1x's & the oddball Nike Karma or juice. I did just pick up a box of Titleist NXT's today as I have used a few in the last couple weeks with some nice results.

If I have a hole with a long forced carry or bordered by a lot of deep woods, I will pull out a D2 distance or feel since if I do happen to screw up & lose it, no big deal.

I play NXTs almost exclusively now. But before that I was trying to keep it at $20 or less. My favs in that category are Bridgeston E6+, Titleist DT Solo, Precept U Tri Tour, and Wilson Zip. If you can find a 3 piece ball in your price range, that will produce the most feel for you. But I will tell you, if you are losing 3 a round, and are shooting around the low 90s, I would go with a 2 piece ball with very little spin. You will be able to keep your tee shots in the fairway a little more.

I bought a dozen of the new TaylorMade TP Red, and really liked them - except for the $40 price tag...

I was playing one the other day, and hit it into the woods. I reached into my bag, grabbed a ball, re-teed, and played the hole out. I played another hole before looking at the ball and discovered that it was one of the Top-Flite D2 Distance balls I had left.

TBH - I can't see paying three times as much for a ball that is only slightly better. No doubt the better players here can take advantage of the TP Red. I can't.

The D2-Distance is my ball. I'm stocking up.

If that is your theory, why spend so much on clubs? I mean Vokey wedges arent really needed at that price tag are they? A high end 3 piece ball is not slightly better than a Rock Flite D2. It is night and day better.
