Does cleveland do special requests for a price?

I am just reallllly curious.. because I would be tempted to unload a decent amount of cash to get a hibore xls tour in like a 7 or 6 degree loft...

I had a demo 8.5 with aldia(i didn't read it too carefully but its baby blue and middle of the road for price) for a few days while I was getting my Taylor 320 7 degree re shafted with a ys-6.

I could swing my ass off at the ball and it would go straight down the right side of the fairway because i'm used to playing a draw, but.. like i would have to reallllllly over do it to hi a draw or fade. This is really nice for me.. but it was coming up consistently 20 yards short of where i'm used to hitting it.. mostly because it would just balloon up in the air because of the loft and stop right where it hits. But I have to say that it was dang hard to spray a shot with the club, so .. i suppose I could get used to the 310 yard distance.. but its not going to win me any long drive contests.. i dunno.

Sorry i made that sort of a run on explanation.. block of text attack.

I don't know if I could play if I only hit it 310 from the tee.

Thats horrible especially playing from the whites like I do. I'd be like 40 yards out when I'm usually on the green.

I know what you mean. Why even play if you only hit it 310?

doh... i knew i shouldnt have put a yardage in there..

but basically the driver i've had for 3 years or so.. is going farther then the brand spanking new technology. Actually i tried to find one of the big names new drivers in anything less then 8.5 degrees.. and I have not been able to find any of them other then titlist, but i have never liked the feel of the titlist clubs its always like hitting the ball with a petrified fish on a stick or something..

but i'm guessing that no one has any idea if Cleveland would make a custom loft..

Sounds like a shaft issue & not a loft issue to me. And I hear you on the lack of length, the other day I was really off & most of my tee shots were slightly left & in the fairway but the damn ball was only rolling to about 290-295. Frickin sucks having to use my gap wedge to get on a 400 yd par 4 when I am used to utilizing the lob wedge for that. Hopefully today the ball will get back into the 320-330 range I am accustomed to.

rather than jumping on you about your distance off the tee like the rest I will tell you if you are saying the ball is "ballooning" then it will be an issue of shaft rather than loft like wi-golfer said. i used to feel i hit the ball too high with an 8.5, now I'm actually using a 10.5 but hitting the ball on a more boaring trajectory and its going further.

if you are used to hitting the ball over 300 with a taylor 320, why are you putting a ys-6 in it? without seeing your swing a ys-6 does not sound like a good shaft for you since it has a fairly low kick point and will give you a higher trajectory.

with a straight answer to your original question, cleveland will not make a custom driver for "joe-blow" golfer. other sites may claim to get some tour stuff that will have those kinds of specs but the price will be astronomical. just get fit by a local professional

I know that you could get a 905R in a 7.5, I have a friend who has one. But like has been said, he had a swing issue that was causing him to hit it too high with too much spin. He had a "dip and flip". He would run his right knee really aggressively at the ball, and flip his hands at impact. Before dropping a bundle on equipment, I'd video your swing. My friend fixed the dip, now he could probably hit an 8.5.

EDIT: If you do hit it 330, you might just need less loft. If you spin a Hibore too much, well, yikes.

Pretty tough to get use to a 310 yard drive. Whats the farthest drive
you've hit?

I don't see how he can even play the game when he has the distance of a 14 yr old girl, better man up & take some lessons & learn to swing for the fences

well.. my scramble team was fairly happy with having 140 yards in on two of the 510 yard par 5's.. we won that one. I can't say that I know the exact distance im sort of a marker person.. like i know i can clear a ditch on a 350 yard hole, but with the Cleveland it splashed in the water, or if I can clear the fairway bunker on a hole and still get roll and be 100 out where the cleveland just stuck just on the far side of the bunker 140 out.

And i understand the shaft problem.. i was having it reshafted because I had thought i had a tour stiff taylor shaft on the 320.. turns out there has been a regular flex on it. (I had bought it on ebay and there was bag rub on the label)

Next weekend is the remax long drive qualifier .. so i'm actually going to go do that and see if the new shaft will help out a bit

Good luck in the Re-Max. Don't let these guys get you down. Its just that there are a lot of people who do not realize how far 300 yards is. 300 yards is a big poke.

300 yds is a long long ways away & for anyone to claim they are averaging 310+ is rather unbelievable. Hell tour pro's don't average that & I bet they hit a lot more fairways.

I'm not going to bother arguing your distance. If you hit it that far, congrats and the best of luck on the Remax tour. All I'm going to say is that I've heard that the HiBore XLS has been somewhat of a disappointment to quite a few people. Try a older XL in the same loft with a low launch shaft and see how that works out for you.
