Are you looking to stay with a blade? Then look at the Newport 2 Studio Select, or an older Newport 2.

If you want to try a Cameron mallet, then try either the Futura Mallet (far superior to the crappy Futura, BTW,) or the Red X - the Red X being the more popular of the two.

I putted with the Futura Mallet for a while, and found it to be a very nice mallet.

See if you can dredge up a carbon steel Newport. Gun Blue or OilCan - it's tough to do better than them.

If you like the looks of an Anser style, you can't go wrong with the Newports. Should you prefer more of a "Mills" look, the Circa's #1 thru #5 fit that bill. (I love the feel of the ball off a Circa, but they're too much like blades for me.) The Circa #6 is similar to the B60 design.

You do mention moving away from a blade style. The Red X3 or Red X5 are excellent mid-mallets. (I love my Studio Design #5, but they're no longer made!)

There's also a rumor the Squareback will be released to retail by August, or so. Those, have had an enormous prescence on tour.

Putters are so personal, it is difficult for another to recommend what will suit a person. The putter has to look good to YOU, feel good to YOU, and instill confidence in YOU! Read all you can about Scottys on puttertalk.com or on cameroncollector.com Both have volumes of information about current models... past successes... and what's rumored to be in the pipeline.

My Scotty has made the single biggest difference in my scoring than anything I've ever added to a bag. That does not mean the same Scotty design would fit all others playing this game. Depending on your typical score, a putter can be in your hands for a third of the stokes in a round. No other club will be held in your fingers in a round than the putter. Take your time... wear out the carpet at shops in your area. I finally found my love... there's one out there for you, too!!!!!

They are making a Newport Detour now that looks pretty sharp. Kind of a mixture of a blade and a mallet.

I changed from a Ping Anser 2 that I had in the bag for TWENTY years (one of the old, patent pending models from about 1986 or 87) to a Scotty Cameron Studio Design #2.

If you are wanting something blade-like (as I did) here are a few good choices....

The Napa -- A heel shafted blade reminiscent of the 50's and 60's. Think Wilson 8802. They are supposed to be magical for those with a "swinging gate" stroke. Think Ben Crenshaw. They cost a fortune, however.... and have not been made (other than limited editions) since about 1999 or 2000. $500+ in good shape up to $1000 for the limited editions or mint condition Napas, and $300 for Napas that look like they have been dragged on the cart path for an entire 18 holes.

CameronNapa.jpg

I bought what you see in my avatar, the Studio Design #2. It is more blade-like without much heel toe weighting at all. Just a little out on the toe, which helps with setup more than any effect on the sweetspot. I love the sightline running perpendicular to the target line, and parallell to the face. I feel like I am aligning the entire face to the hole, not just a line or dot.

You can get several models that are similar to the Newport, but don't have the traditional plumbers neck offset, like this Pro Platinum Finish Laguna model. Simliar to what Brad Faxon uses.

PP Laguna.jpg

And then there is the Coronado... an older blade style putter similar to what I have. These were on the short list when I started my search, but are hard to come by.

Coronado GB.jpg

Try going to the Scotty Cameron Website, and going to the PUTTER ARCHIVE. You can look at every model made for every year going all the way back to the early 90's. Be sure to check out the Coronado Two from the late 90's. Fantastic model that goes for about $225 on the bay.

The STUDIO DESIGN line has several putters more blade-like, as well as some beauties that bridge the gap between something similar to what I have, and a more modern Ping Anser style head.

Find a few that interest you in the Putter Archive, and hit ebay to get a hold on the current market for used Camerons, or resale of Camerons that have been restored (Scotty has a magnificent Custom Shop that can do all kinds of great things to used, nearly destroyed putters). At one point I was "watching" more than 40 auctions at the same time, and got mine for a steal.

Fake Camerons can pop up on ebay, but usually on the newer models like Jeff4i mentioned (the Newports in various recent years). I do know of a great website that can help with possible counterfeit Camerons. Not sure of the rules for pimping other websites here, so PM if interested.

If you are not interested in the blade style, then please disregard my little post!

Good Luck!!!

There are many other putter makers besides Cameron that make great product. You can customize things like weight, loft, lie angle, sound slots, stamping and finish.

I'm not knocking Camerons. They are great (I've had 2), but to get one the exact specs you might be looking for could cost a lot of $$$

I beg your pardon, there are not any other putter makers.

If you like Heel shafted putters check out the Del Mar 3.5 and the J.A.T, Both a bit on the expensive side though but putt great and if you ever fancy a change they hold there value so you'll get what you paid for it back.

Studio Select or Studio Style Newport(blade models)

Red X or Futura(mallet)

Honestly though i would never recommend for someone to buy a maller scotty. There are much better mallets out there. IMO its analagous to someone buying a Lamborghini Scooter.
