Looking for a 3 and 4 iron

I have finally come to terms that I can not hit my 3 and 4 iron consistently enough that they should have a spot in my bag. However, I do not want to got the hybrid route and was looking for some more forgiving GI irons to replace them. Any one have any ideas as to what to get.

Oh and always cheap is better.

Tour Edge JMAX Bazooka Tour iron woods. Yes, they are hybrids, but they set up and look very similar to irons from address rather than the small fairway wood effect of most hybrids. If you look around, you can still find some new ones for around $50-$60. Used, they should be dirt cheap. I think Rockbottom still has new ones for sale, and there is always the bay.

I might consider these in the future, but I would like to try out some irons that are easier to hit first and then if those dont work, I will try some hybrids. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'd say Callaway X18, X20, Nike SQ, Slingshot, Taylor Made r7, or Ping G5, G10 would have to be pretty forgiving. Tons of different ones to try out.

I would agree with you, but for the most part OEM clubs are expensive for just buying one club (That and I am cheap), and for an experiment I was kinda thinking about trying out some component clubs.

Since the Acer XP 905 Pro's (I think that that is them) seem to be fairly popular around here recently, it would be great if anyone that has used them could chime in with how they play, and compare them partially to how the J33's play. I guess what I am trying to say is how forgiving are they compared to the J33's or something similar.

Try a Cobra S9. It looks horrible because its too thick in the top line, but it works wonderful. It really really is forgiving, and you get 200yds from each shot easily. At least go an demo one. That's what I did and it worke wonders...

There is still the problem of availability, it is tough to find any OEM clubs in strictly a 3 and a 4 iron

I have a Callaway Big Bertha 3 iron that a friend gave me. I'd be willing to sell it to you pretty cheap.

I also play the Acer XP 905, not the pro version though. They are pretty forgiving but the long irons are still tougher to hit than the short irons.

Could always go with an iron based hybrid:

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid/Utility 3 21 Degree Used Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com

Mizuno FLI-HI Hybrid/Utility 4 24 Degree Used Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com

I highly recommend the PING G2HL irons as well. I picked mine up from GG last year for like 50 bucks.

You could try Proline Preowned as well, many OEM's, used, but great prices and you can buy single irons......
