A Post, and A Quest To You

So here's the deal. In my current sitaution, I nearly never use my 3 wood. Its not consistant enough off of the tee, and I rarely use it out of the fairway. Anyway, I'm going to pull it and try something different.

What might that different be? Two drivers. I hit the Sumo2 and as said, its clunky, a little short, but straights as a bullet. Due to this, I'm thinking, Sumo2 with a V2. I want something easily controllable, something that unless I'm totally off, I can hit most fairways with.

Why? I'll use the FT-i for the bombs, when I need the 300+ shot, and when I can use something a little shorter but need it in the fairway, the Sumo2.

So the quest. Assist me in finding one, preferably but not necessarily with a V2. I can buy one new at my work for 299.99, so make it reasonable.

Do you still want the loft of a regular driver as well? An advantage of my 3 wood is the fact I can lay back on shorter holes when I want full shots in.

What about the Sumo "Lucky 13"? That should be a fairway finder.....just a thought...

Hmmm. If I could find it at a deal, possibly. To try.

I prefer something 9.5-10.5 however.

One I found that couldgo for a good price - the rest on there are $230+

NIKE SQUARE SQ SUMO2 9.5* DRIVER ProForce V2 STIFF - eBay (item 130237116864 end time Jul-15-08 08:41:44 PDT)

You could try just finding the head and buy the shaft seperately. Only 1 on there at the moment and with 8 days to go it's already at $63 though.

That's why I replaced my 3-wood with the HiBore 2 wood. Same loft as a 3-wood... 16 degree. But, shaft is almost driver length and head size is that of a turtle on steroids. I can choke down and hit this thing a mile off a good fairway lie. But, off the tee, it is a guaranteed fairway finder.

As another poster suggested, the Sumo2 comes in a "Lucky 13". With the proper shaft, that could serve you well. Philly Mick won a Masters with 2 drivers in the bag. Not too many years ago, 47 and 48 inch drivers were the "fad". Quite a few carried those long sticks for bombing it out there. A 43 to 44 inch driver was in the bag for tighter fairways.

It's amazing the tinkering we do! Woke up about 2:30, this morning, and couldn't go back to sleep. So, replayed yesterday's abbreviated round in my head... hoping I'd come up with a "weak spot" in the bag that could give justification to "go shopping". I could not contribute a single lost shot, yesterday, to anything but brainfarts! And, I will have difficulty fixing "stupid" with a trip to Golf Galaxy!! But then... there was this one hooked 7-wood....

Your 3-Wood woes are probably compounded by that 975F in your sig. Those are notoriously hard to hit. They have a sweet spot smaller than Paris Hilton's brain pan.

Which driver are you after?
The SQ Sumo2 5900?
or the Sasquatch Sumo2?

I'll assume the SQ version and see what I can find....

There is a Hi-Bore XL two wood that looks like a mini driver. Otherwise I would suggest the HB5 hybrid that is unbolded in your sig.

Let me know if I'm wrong, but I thought the FTi was supposed to be a fairway finder....

I'm not sure a Sumo2 will be any straighter then that is.

I'd go with the post on just replacing your Titty 3-wood...

Sigh....just go to the range and dial in the 3W.

or

.... buy a TEE CB1. You'll see why when it arrives and you put a 85g Comp NT into it.

Did someone say 270 off the tee?

Generally, it is. But sometimes I get a little wild, and in general I have one or two misses to the right per round. Just one of those things. I'm just going to workshop a shorter driver with V2, preferably Sumo2, will do.

More of an idea than anything, also because with my length I can sacrafice a bit here and there for a fairway.
