Looking for a new putter

NEED to find a new putter - I'm sick of turning an 82 into an 88

What's the best I can do for around $120 and under (I know - cheap bastard)... I like putters with some heft and I generally prefer mallets - any advice would be GREATLY appreciated

Pick up a 2nd hand Scotty Red X. Get a 33" and the head weight is 350g. If you prefer the putter longer just extend it. The Red X feels great and is very easy to aim.

take a look at #3 here
Malbty Model 02,03 304 Stainless Milled Putter Head

I built one for my sister recently and couldn't believe how nice it was
It should be less than $50 for you - if it doens't work out, let me know and I might take it off your hands

PING Karsten line has several mallets and is a top notch putter for a bargain price. Nice balance between firm and soft feel.

I like the looks of this, but there's just one problem... My club assembly skills are the only thing worse than my putting

A man's got to know his limitations...

Can these be purchased already assembled?

yes, and apparently, they guarantee the work
Custom Golf Club Assembly - The GolfWorks

I believe if you call, they may even do it for $5 instead of the normal $10

go with a heavy putter.

the name doesn't disappoint. this thing is really weighted down, and it forces you to make a nice smooth stroke.

do a search on the forum and you'll see that this putter has really helped a good number of us improve on the greens.

they have lots of models/designs out there to suit your eye.

Heavy Putter

should easily be able to find one used for under $120.

Much thanks to everyone for their input & suggestions...

In the end, I went with new over used and got a karsten piper - it's the second heaviest of the line (360-365 I believe), and it just feels real smooth - my Wilson is on the scrapheep for good.

Fedex dropped her off today (nice price online - free shipping) and I HAD to go out for a quick round. I love it - esp after I learned to trust it on longer putts. Didn't strike the ball wonderfully today, but I did put well (31) en route to an 85. I wasn't concentrating too well with the other sticks - I just wanted to get to the green and play with my new toy!!!

Special thanks to Longshanks and RickinMA for their input (the former for being the first to suggest the karsten line and the latter for turning me on to the Maltby product - I'm going to have them build my next set of irons sometime after the holidays... just don't tell my wife)

Thumbs up Nice

I was actually going to suggest the PING Karsten series... they seemed nice, and were clearly affordable. I like the harshness of it, you either hit it, or you don't, and you get clear feedback.

I considered the blade style, but went with the ZEN, which I love... but it's about preference, i'm glad you liked it...

A.
