I think there's definitely some science to it - get fitted for a shaft, then try different heads using that shaft until you find one that gives you the launch angle and spin rates you're looking for

I believe on average, the shaft bending forward contributes approx 2* of dynamic loft

It is all science. That is why EVERYONE on tour hits it as far as their swingspeed/angle of attack will allow. They have all been optimally fit.

There is really only ONE cost-effective way to optimize your driver distance. Go to a clubfitter with a launch monitor, and knows what he is doing, and get fitted. And that's all you'll have to do.

Once your driver is optimized for your swingspeed and angle of attack, you can just go out and play.

Without hard numbers to back up what you "think" you are doing, it is still just guesswork. Maybe you will find a driver that you hit longer and better than all others you have tried. You STILL may not be getting everything out of your swing.

Without getting on the launch monitor and getting the numbers, it is all just guesswork and trying to get lucky.

What I meant was that there isn't any cold hard facts to go by unless of course you get on a monitor. What works for one doesn't work for another.

Yeah, but what happened to good ole fashioned demoing? Bottom line: Chaoticians would love golf. Why? There are just so many factors, be them physical or mental, that come into play.

I've had 9º and 10.5º drivers and find little (if any) difference on my trajectory. I've gone with the 10.5º just because I'm old now and I'm supposed to hit a higher loft driver...
