Thread: irons- lost distance and accuracy

  1. irons- lost distance and accuracy

I have the g2 irons in r flex cs lite- bought a set of i5 with cslite stiff. I lost about 1 club to a half a club in distance. and hitting a straight shot with anything longer than a 9 iron is almost impossible. could this be due to the shafts or the club heads- im guessing the stiff shfat is the cuilprit.. Which makes me wonder, because i was hitting the i10 7 iron is stiff at the range and hovering at the same distance of my g2 in r flex...

im confused- long story short- Anyone want to buy a set of i5????

Just guessing, but if you are now hitting a fade (or slice), or something off to the right (for right hander) it may more likely be due to the less offset on the i5. The added offset on the G2 will basically allow you to better close the face at impact.

This may also account for part or all of the distance loss as a fade is a less powerful shot. Although the less forgiving i5 may also be part of the culprit if you are not hitting square on the sweet spot.

I would give it a little time.

  3. How long have you given them a try? New heads and new shaft and even if they are the same kind of grips, the grips are brand new, too. You are experiencing a whole host of new feels and you will have to retrain your body to respond to them.

Are they the same length and lie, too? Because if you changed either of those, that's even more variables to get used to.

I guess I am saying, just give them some time.

I checked the lofts on Ping.com, and they seem pretty similar (the below is for each set's 7 iron), so it probably isn't that.
    i5 7 36.75" 34.0°
    g2 7 36.75" 34.3°

  4. hitting alot of worm burners, fat shots, and my pw is only going 100-110 yards.... definitley feels alot less forgiving, im sure that has a big part of it... but ive never really played a stif shaft either so i dont know if that is the issue..

Not really hitting may fades, i just seem to be hitting all over the place when i make a solid contact.. most shots are grounders though.. definitley thinking its the shaft flex..

First thing you should do is use some impact tape to see where you are consistently making contact on the face. Black electric tape, masking tape, or baby powder would work as well. Could just be you are not making contact in the center of the face and the G2 was just disguising it as a good shot with the deep cavity. The thick sole on the G2 would also prevent you from hitting it as fat.

While the G2 is a game improvement iron, it is basically such by disguising bad shots with good results. If you really want to improve, you need to make sure you are making clean contact with the face, and fix it if you are not. This could be a good wakeup call in pointing out issues you didn't know you had with the G2. Whether you keep the i5's or not, get some form of impact tape and make sure that is not the issue. If you normally hit your PW over 110, I'm guess a stiff shaft is not going to generate the shots you describe, and may likely be the correct shaft. This sounds more like technique issues.

One company's "standard" can very, very easy be another's "flat". You would probably do very well to get your lies checked.

    How much for the i5's?
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

Those irons obviously aren't working. You're going to have to send them to me for proper disposal.

  14. Sort of went through the same thing. Went to a club fitter and found that the shafts were the main problem. They simply did not fit my swing speed and plane. Switched shafts that were lighter (so the club head felt heavier) and would bend to create more efficiency with my swing. Big difference.

  15. ust bought some r7's in r floex- couldnt be happier now.
