Went to a Titleist / Cobra demo day today

My club had one of these demo days today, so I decided to go along and check out some of the new equipment from these guys. In no order of preference here is my thoughts:

Cobra Speed Pro S with stiff flex Speeder 686 shaft: Light. Very light. So light I had no idea where it was in my swing. I prefer a heavier club and this did not suit me at all. The sound annoyed the hell out of me too. Maybe a good driver for mid handicappers but the Speeder shaft and I certainly didn't see eye to eye. If this thing flexes as much as it did in stiff I would hate to see a regular. Next please...

As the new Titleist drivers aren't due out in Oz until late next month the rep only had these in right handed and select specs, but I hit them anyway and gathered enough to form a half decent review.

Titleist 909D2 with Aldila VooDoo in stiff: Meh...... Could take it or leave it, sound is still the traditional from Titleist, and this club looks fine at address. But the shaft and I again failed to get along. Not sure who Aldila are aiming at with this shaft but it's certainly not me and my 102 mph swing. Seemed very weak and I could not load the thing to save my life.

Titleist 909D3 COMP with Diamana Blueboard in stiff: Even hitting this thing right handed I can easily say I would bag this thing in a heartbeat. The sound is great, looks great to my eye at address and the ball flies off the face. A couple of 270 yard bombs and I was hooked. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Diamana shaft was great, but not excellent. Certainly played closer to my interpretation of a stiff flex than the Speeder and VooDoo. In one word: SOLD!!!!

Titleist AP1 with DG S300: Not bad for Titleist's GI. Thicker topline to inspire confidence without looking fat and chunky like Callaway's. Slightly higher ballflight than the other irons I tried but feel solid and would suit 12-20 cappers. Personally I don't think many 20+ cappers would bag these as they may be a touch too much to handle...

Titleist AP2 with Project X 5.5: My pick of the bunch. Great penetrating ballflight and dialled in for accuracy. Most of my shots did not move more than 5 yards left or right in the air. Great solid feel and nice and clean look. Could bag these no problems.

Titleist ZB Forged with Project X 5.5: My second pick. A little more workability than the AP2's with the same trajectory. Good feel and setup, and could easily bag these aswell.

Cobra Pro CB with DG S300: Fine. Good. Solid. Nothing to write home about but certainly should not receive any bad reviews. Slightly higher ballflight again but seemed to penetrate well through the air. Good and solid, dependable clubs.

Titleist ZM Forged with DG S300: Sweet Jesus. I thought I could play this game to some extent. If you want to know where your game is at these are the clubs to do it. I've never felt so humbled and embarrassed about my game as I was when hitting these. A true players iron and not one to mess around with. The 2 out of 15 balls that I hit well with these were fantastic and could not be rivalled by anything else on the planet but the other 13 balls would have been played from the other side of the planet. Pass. But due to my own inadequacies... Ouch, it hurt to admit that.

Review over, the 909D3 should make its way into my bag later next year as should the AP2's or ZB semi-blades. We'll see how things pan out...

I have the Cobra Speed Pro S and the stiff Fuji Speeder does play soft, more like a regular. Fits me, though.

Did you hit the 909F2 or 909F3 fairway woods?

Cobra had a demo day today at my local shop, Hit the L5V. Felt great! got fitted with a 10.5 Stiff 60g high kick Diamana shaft. Hard to tell on the number since the Launch monitor was off and not tracking correctly. I will try and get out on a real range to demo this bad boy but it is something I wound consider bagging. Not as loud as the others either but still had that composite sound.

What do you have against me? Why do wish me such harm?

The sound doesn't annoy you at all? I've tried the original Fuji Speeder and now the 686 and they both play VERY soft to flex. Whats the deal ?

Unfortunately ran out of time before getting to these, and they only had them in right handed aswell, which didn't help. Would love to try them and disappointed that I didn't as I've heard great things... Definitely next time though.
