Why rush for new clubs..?

I have noticed after my 7 years of golf in a 16 year old span that the obselesence of clubs makes everyone rush to the proshop at the start of each new season with their wallets in hand. But beyond the asthetics of the new clubs, and the pride; not to mention ego boost; is there any advantage to having new clubs every year only to impress your peers? I have nothing against new clubs (I re-vamped my woods this year adding new cleveland 13 and 15s with the Hogan 9.5) but when does necessity meet narcissism. I work at my local club and I have seen much worse players than me come in with much more expensive clubs. I have recently reverted to my primal instincts and picked up the long forgotten Australian Blades. 20 years old and these clubs are beauty's. Mind you i need to regrip and re-shaft these clubs. 20 years of use doesn't mean rust and tearing don't come into play. But I actually took out the fairly new Titliest's I had and pu these in. From an appearance look not much change as the classic blade look makes me look like a seasoned pro, but I have taken flak fomr many co - workers for the change. Am I jus an idiot playing with irons older than I am, or are those TP R7 users really as good as they think they look.

The addicted golfer is always on the lookout for a club that make them perform better, whether they be hackers or scratch.
