3i hybrid hunt

Now I'm on the look for a 3i hybrid and hit a bunch at the shop today. Oddly, the one I wanted to like most, I liked least. The J36 22*. Can't figure out why they made the thing like an inch longer than any other hybrids in that loft. It was actually longer than most of the 19*'s.

I was surprised to find the one I liked most was the 2007 Burner hybrid in a 22*. I think I might as well get one since they are dirt cheap and try a reshaft. Pretty sure they are a .370 but if anyone can verify I'd appreciate it. It's either that or hold off for an R9TP, which will also be in a 22* with some sick shaft options and the face can be opened and closed. That's going to be like $200 when it comes out though but has SVS8, Motore85 and Ozik Altus shaft options.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

I like the 07 Burner hybrid lineup, have 2 of them. Tried quite a few different hybrids before I found something that halfassed agreed with me.

Highly recommend the Cobra Baffler with a steel shaft.

I've had the J33 in my bag for years. Solid club... not the most forgiving, but very solid

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

There's a local craigslist post here for a 21* J33 hybrid. The guy is asking 50 but we could talk him down; I'm all for enabling!

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

I'm trying to cover my 3i distance, which is 22*.

Wi - how would you compare the TEE and Burner? The only thing I'm worried about with the Burner is it'll be too high and too left prone. Although, I'm probably going to reshaft with a DGSL, which is very low spin to keep the flight down.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

I love my Titleist 585H Hybrid... very simple, no offset, and come with good shafts. I think they can be found used for around 50-75 bucks now on ebay.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

Again, it'll be too long. I hit most 21* hybrids about 210 and my 18.5* 5W goes 215. My 4iron is about 180-185. I'm going to go 22 or 23*, which is tough because all the more player geared ones are lower lofts. Not that I'm much of a player but really don't need a lot of help getting the ball higher.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

Ez, I would stay away from the burners. They are stupid easy to hit, but want to go LEFT ALOT. I'm not sure that changing shafts would help that. I played the Bafflers last year, and they are killer hybrids. I have the FT hybrids this year, and they are sweet and give a little lower, more penetrating flight that still lands soft. The baffler comes in a 23 with a steel shaft, and can probably be had for a song. The FT comes in a 24, but with a graphite shaft. They are also a little more pricey, but I like the 2 I have.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

Looking around, it appears you have a ton of options in that loft range.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

I'm almost postive my boss actually has the Burner 22*. I'll hit it at the range or whatever if he does. I was surprised that it setup pretty square to me, especially in a 22*. Most of the hybrids start looking really left prone in the 22-23* loft. It actually looked more square at adress than the Bridgeston or the Idea Pro. What's the deal with Adams anyway? They put fckng "tour prototype" on every GD club they make. Are they going to come out with a retail one or something.

Of course, the other option is to wait for the R9TP. If I get too crazy reshafting a hybrid I'll spend more than I would for one of those new. With the shafts they have and 3 different face angle settings it's not a bad idea.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

I'm not a huge fan of the Adams stuff at all. Another couple of hybrids to look at are the TM TP and the rescue dual. They are a couple of years old, but the ones I had of each type were very solid. Seems like hybrids are going back to looking like hybrids, instead of fairway woods.

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

Something to think about if you get the r9 is that when you change the face angles, you change the loft and lie also. At least thats what happens with their drivers. Not sure if that will be an issue for you but something to think about..

Re: 3i hybrid hunt

Keep you eyes open for the older model Ping Rapture 21'. If you can find it with the Aldila Proto 85 shaft you have hit the motherload.

21' is the 3iron
24' is the 4iron

I picked up one of those (21) last weekend at the Haggin Oaks Superstore.
Deal of the year.
$50.00 w/ the proto in stiff
Brand new with the wrapper still on the head.

Blowing out drivers @ $100
Fairway woods @ $75
Hybrids @ $50

These are mostly last year's clubs from the "try out" rack, but some are NOS from last year. Hundreds of clubs.
