Re: SK Fiber Tour Trac 80
I have two 11.5º Maltby CT250s. One has a TT80 Stiff and the other a VS Proto 65-S. I hit them both with very similar trajectory, I would say high end of mid. As long as I have good upper center face contact they go in the wind we play in here quite well. For me those are the two shafts I've found over the past couple years that always feel good to me. I would say the TT80 feels slightly softer and a bit smoother but very similar. I've never really noticed the weight difference between the two.
I just snagged a mint 10.5º Exotics driver head on the 'bay for cheap today and I'm seriously thinking about dropping a TT80 in it unless I can get a VS Proto ridiculously cheap again.
Edit: I also meant to add that high ball flight and wind are not necessarily a match made in hell. The real key to distance is getting optimum spin. Trajectory calculators and sims will show time after time that a high launch with optimum spin will get you your longest distance, even in wind. It's excessive spin that kills you.
I play in Kansas where 15-20mph+ winds are really common. I hit it way higher now than I used to off the tee thanks to going with higher lofted/lower spin driver heads, mostly for control and a slower swingspeed. When I do actually launch the ball off the upper half of the clubhead and get the low-ish spin and high ball speed for my swing speed, the ball carries further than I ever used to get with carry and roll -- even in the wind. If you get the right spin you'll be amazed how much the ball bores through the wind, even with a high(er) launch.
