From titleist ap1 to zb irons

Hey guys im switching from the titleist ap1 irons that i have to the new zb's i was wonderin if this would be a very good idea. I am a second year college golfer and have recently signed with a D1. I am a better ball striker than the ap1's were probably made for . I am looking for something a little lighter and less bulky that i can work the ball more consistant with. to big of a transition or will i get along?

Might take alittle getting used to, but it shouldn't be bad. I'd say a range session should get you tuned to the difference of the two.

Re: From titleist ap1 to zb irons

The answer should be in a comprehensive test of the ZB irons. Have you done that yet?

Let's see you like Titleist stuff, but want more than AP1 and are hesitant about ZB's. Look at AP2's they fit right in.

Re: From titleist ap1 to zb irons

Here is my experience going to blades. Your mishits aren't going to go anywhere near as far. That can be good and bad. Good if a bad hit would have put you out of bounds, bad because if the course is wide open, you're still going to be a long way from the green.

Blades made me concentrate on making solid and true contact more. Do I do it all the time, of course not.

And you should be able to work the ball with the AP2's, definitely with the ZB's. Unless you are wham up great golfer I'd stay away from a true blade. My RAC mb's have some forgiveness built into them.

I wouldn't sweat it. I'm a hack and went from Ping G5's to Ping S59's and hit them better.

Re: From titleist ap1 to zb irons

My index has dropped by 8 since making the switch from Cally X-18s to the decidedly less forgiving Wilson Staff Pi5 irons. If you're a good enough stick to get a golf scholarship, you've got nothing to worry about.

Re: From titleist ap1 to zb irons

As a D1 golfer you should have absolutely no problem playing those sticks. I found that when I switched to blades, I was able to work a ball not just left to right or right to left, but also to much more easily control distance with each iron. This meant that my irons rather than having a 10 yd range where I would hit one iron and one iron only I have twenty yard ranges with each club overlapping distances with the two around it. Now I am able to hit that hard 7 to put spin on it or a soft 5 to let it run out or an easy 6 to let it bounce twice and stop. All to the same initial distance. It should help if you put the time in to get used to it.
