Thread: Beginner Golf Set

  1. Beginner Golf Set

Hi, i am looking for a first golf set and i have found a walter hagen T3 set, a topflite xl 15 pc set, and a maxfli black max set they all seem pretty nice but i was wondering which do you think i should go with or if i should go with a different set. I want to say in the 400 dollar price range. Also what is the difference between steel and graphite shafts? The black max set is all graphite. Any advice is appreciated thanks.

Im not really sure about those sets there but i would just recommend reading up reviews on them. There is a cleveland golf set that sports authority is selling for 499 or 599 i forgot which which is a lil more than what u say u are willing to spend but i know for a fact that set is a very nice complete set. Gradually of course u will replace the 3 wood and driver with time but u really cant beat that nice of a complete set.

While I'm sure those you listed would get you started, I'd suggest buying used. For the price you said you wanted to pay, you can get a excellent set of used that you can stick with as your game progresses. Check out Global Golf under the Pro Shop header here on the site.

Find a nice set of 3 star irons, a couple of wedges, a putter, and a 3 or 4 wood. You really don't need a driver starting out. Get a good set of cavity backs and a good putter if you can find them.

Here are some examples. Any of these would make a good starter set that you won't need to replace in a year or 2.
