Question Thinking about buying some blades....

am I nuts?

Currently I am using Hogan Edge CFTs, which I am just learning how to hit well.

But on eBay are several full sets of Hogan blades: Apex, Radial, Redline, etc, that are so pretty and so cheap, that I am thinking of buying a set, just for funsies.

Nuts or not?

What's your index? I think Rockford is a 4 and he just sold his blades and went back to CBs. But if it's just for fun it can't do any harm to try them.

Hogan guy, eh?

I can't say enuff about the FTX series. They are just plain sweet. I looked seriously at buying a set, as they would have fulfilled my every dream of having a combo set of blades for PW-7 and 6-3 being progressive cavity back.

That being said, i'm going to step on some toes here. But, in all my findings, I found that Hogan clubs showed the most face and sole wear out of any used sets that I saw. And trust me, I looked at alot. I don't know what to chalk that up to....maybe Hogan guys use the snot outta there clubs, maybe they just have less chrome, I dunno...the best were Titleist, Cobra, Mizuno and then way down the list, Hogan, in that order. Of course there are other brands, but that's what i focused on and noticed in my search. I have a scribble book of irons that i was looking at with pros and cons, the Hogans by far outnumbered the others combined with "Excessive face wear on the scoring clubs on the sweet spot".

Just something to keep in mind.

But, the FTX set is sweet. If you can, try and find a Mp-33/30 or Mp-32/33 combo set. They're tough to hit, but the progression will help ease the pain of the long irons (which I had no problems hitting to be honest).

If you have any other questions, fire away.

Blades are fine if you hit the ball regularly somehwre near the middle of the club.I have to use them,I hit cavities onto the moon.

The best cavity/muscle combo I've ever hit is the TM RAC LTII,I'm considering some myself.

But its the offset you may need,it helps get the ball in the air easier.

Blades are good if you dedicate enough practice time.

The FTX set must be sweet: they are going for $400 and up on eBay.

Don't get me wrong; as a just-barely-20-handicapper, my CFT set is probably more appropriate to my game level. But if I continue to improve, I may buy a under $100 set of Hogan blades, just to see what they are like.

I get to the range several times a week, and I have a net set up at home, but I work 6 days a week, so I only get to play a round twice a month, at most.

They're a morf set. The scoring irons are blades, the lower irons are cavity backs.

Hogan also offers a full set of blades PW-2iron.

This might be a decent "trial" set, Siberian:

Nope, he plays Apex Plus from 2001.

Check the irons history for details...
